LADIES CHRISTMAS LUNCH 13/12/2019

Best Wishes from the Ladies Committee 2019 - 2020                                                                                                     Jacqui, Mary, Vice-Captain Nora, Brenda, Lady Captain Margaret, Pauline, Gill and Jo

Lady Captain Margaret Kerr welcomed  ladies to the 2019 Ladies Christmas Lunch which just happened to fall the day after the General Election, meaning there were some attendees who had been up all night following the drama!  No one seemed the worse for wear and we all tucked into a fantastic Christmas spread before being entertained by the Committee with a  brain-teasing golf  quiz,  mastered by Jo Stewart, a rollicking sing-a-long, courtesy of Jacqui Landsburgh  and the Elimination Game,  orchestrated by Mary Miller.  The Golf Hamper raffled for the Captain's Charity was won by Maureen Reid and £276 was raised. Past Captain Margaret Hunter gave the vote of thanks.  Congratulations to our committee for their hard work in making the day such a success.

CHARLES' FAREWELL CHALLENGE 18/10/2019

Lady Captain Margaret Kerr presents Charles with a token of appreciation
Today we played our Charles’ Farewell Challenge with a non counting Stableford rather than the 4 club competition in the Fixtures, with Charles challenging us to beat him on the 15th hole on Rosemount.  Charles was in good form and the ladies had their work cut out to beat him or equal him.   The weather was kind but at  the end, the  rain came on and caught out  the last three ladies playing.

Charles as our guest of honour, along with the ladies and some members from the Wee Course, enjoyed soup and sandwiches after play.    Our thanks go to Elaine and her staff for providing this.

The winners of the Stableford competition, both with 34 points, were Sally Hebden winning from Jan Kennedy on a better inward half.    These ladies received wine as prizes.  A card was signed by all ladies present and we presented this to Charles along with 2 bottles of Champagne as a small token of our appreciation.   The rest of the donations made by the ladies will be presented to Charles at his retiral  Dinner on 29th October.

The Annual Meeting was held in the Dining Room at 6.00pm, with 34 full members 12 Wee Course members with 21 apologies received.

After the Minutes of 2018 were approved, there being no matters arising, the various reports were delivered commencing with :-

Competitions Report, Margaret Kerr, Friendly Matches, Fiona Johnston,  Handicap League, Mary Miller, and Scratch League, Jillian Milne, followed by Shirley Irvine covering the Wee Course Report.  The Lady Captain read a report provided by Brenda Kerr, Blairgowrie rep for P & K County Ladies, and who is working to encourage more ladies and juniors to become involved in golf.

As Lady Captain, I delivered my report highlighting many positives in my year, which included the Tri-Am, the Outing to Ladybank, the introduction of  the Lady Captain, Captains Day and, of course, my own Captain's Day in September.

I gave thanks to all the ladies for their support over the year, and to the Committee who have worked so collectively to contribute towards the Club's overall Strategy.  In concluding my report I made reference to my words of last year, “If I still have that smile, the one in the photo on the wall, at the end of my Captaincy, then I will have achieved what I set out to do.”  I then sang, "I'm still Smiling", and thank you everyone, I've enjoyed it.

Nomination of Lady Captain took place and I presented Margaret Kerr with the Captain's Badge and a personal gift.  In a joyous atmosphere Margaret continued with the election of the Vice Captain, Nora Bennet  and two Committee members, Gill Tissell and Jacqui Landsburgh.

To conclude the evening there was a presentation of Winter League prizes and various others.

LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY

Group photo prior to Texas Scramble on Rosemount

On Friday 27th September 58 ladies signed up to play in the Lady Captain's Day 3 Team Texas Scramble, 40 on Rosemount and 18 on the Wee Course. The format certainly created a good team atmosphere and from the photos taken in the lounge after the event everyone seemed to be embracing our 130 years celebrations.  The Lady Captain, dressed up for the occasion in her kilt and bunnet, and some other ladies wore a variety of items relating to 1889.  When the Lady Captain came on to the 1st hole she was piped onto the tee via iPad.  On the 18th green the ladies had to put out with a Hickory putter and pay a pound if they landed in the Captain's Greenside bunker.

After the game, a number of Social members joined the players to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or mocktails created by Angie.  In the dining room the ladies sat down to a wonderful hot/cold buffet and Cup-cakes decorated with 130 years.  The atmosphere was lively while the members enjoyed the rest of their afternoon which included the presentation of prizes for both courses.  Once again it was good to see our newest members join in the activities, playing on the Wee Course, but intending to become full members next year.

Mary Miller gave the vote of thanks to the Lady Captain, Gary and Elaine, caterers and Angie and her bar staff for a great day.

LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY 2019

The Lady Captain will post the  full results tomorrow.

FRIENDLY AWAY TO EDZELL

This was a re-arranged fixture due to poor weather in August.  Sue Waddell was Captain for the day and provided the following report.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our games this afternoon.  We were extremely lucky with the weather with warm, dry and calm playing conditions, which was a pleasant surprise for September.  The course was in excellent condition although the greens had been scarified which made the putting a bit more of a challenge.    The score was 2-2, a fair result.

After the match we enjoyed an excellent two course meal and we look forward to welcoming the Edzell Ladies to Blairgowrie next year.

OUTING TO LADYBANK ON 25TH SEPTEMBER

I would like to thank Margaret Hunter for travelling to Ladybank Golf Club to join us, even although she was unable to play due to her ongoing shoulder injury.  Margaret as you will see still utilised her skills by collating the cards and taking the photos of our outing.

30 ladies travelled to Ladybank, 24 on the coach to participate in a day of fun golf.  Although the coach was slightly late in leaving Blairgowrie, the ladies were still on time to have their bacon rolls and coffee prior to going on the first tee at 11.40.  The Ladybank Lady Captain had been present to greet us and passed on her well wishes via Mary Hope who was able to chat with her before our arrival.

The format of the day was Individual stroke play over 18 holes and a team event of 2 scores from 3 on Stableford points for the team prize.  Following the golf all the ladies enjoyed a two course meal with a light refreshment and loads of chat and laughter.  At one point the group joined in as the Lady Captain broke into song.

The winners on the day were :-
1st Scratch Silver - Gillian Wallace, 1st Handicap Fiona Johnston.
1st Scratch Bronze - Katie Chapman, 1st Handicap Brenda Kerr.
                              N/P Silver - Eileen McMurray
                              N/P Bronze - Heather Dawson
Longest Drive Silver - Gillian Wallace
Longest Drive Bronze - Meriel Walker

Team Prize - Gillian Wallace, Anglea Rooney and Mary Miller

The service within the clubhouse was excellent and very relaxed, to the extent that the group were asked to have their photo taken on the 18th green with the caterers.

The day I feel was a great success, taking in all the feedback given from our ladies on the way home.  The weather held with only slight rain at the beginning of the day, this adding to the great value of a day's Golf Outing costing only £35.00 all inclusive.

Thank you ladies for providing me with another wonderful day in my Captaincy.
