HANDICAP LEAGUE BLAIRGOWRIE V MUCKHART 26TH JULY 2026

Blairgowrie V Muckhart 26th July 2026

Our final Handicap match took place at Muckhart Golf Club where we played on the Naemoor and Cowden courses.

All the Blairgowrie ladies were giving shots to the home team which made it an uphill struggle.  The result was a 4-1 win for Muckhart which was disappointing after our previous successes in the Handicap League.

The courses were in excellent condition and the setting among the hills was very picturesque.  The weather was mixed with a few showers early on, then some warm sunshine, but most of us were caught in a very heavy downpour towards the end of the round.  We all enjoyed the course and the chat over drinks in the clubhouse afterwards.

Thanks to the Blairgowrie team of Denise Ginley, Lesley McPherson, Kathleen Norris, Elaine Robson and Gill Tissell (team captain).

FRIENDLY MATCH BLAIRGOWRIE V CRIEFF THURSDAY 16TH JULY

Friendly Match Blairgowrie V Crieff at home

Match Report

It was a glorious afternoon when we had the pleasure of hosting the visiting ladies from Crieff for our friendly match on Rosemount.

The course was in stunning condition, with many compliments being extended to our greenkeeping team.  We all enjoyed the company of our playing partners and whilst all matches were keenly contested our guests were able to secure a 21/- 1/ win.

Over post-match drinks we were pleased to hear that Crieff now have more ladies available to play than previously and it should be possible to revert to teams of 8 when we visit there next year, with catering also likely to be available.

My thanks as always go to the Blairgowrie ladies, Linda Rice, Maggie Marshall, Gill Tissell, Judith Carmichael and Marion Kay, for joining me to represent the Club.

COMPOSITE MATCH 13TH JULY AT GLENEAGLES

What a fabulous day we had at Gleneagles on Monday 13 July in glorious, sunny conditions.

On arrival our hosts provided breakfast rolls, tea/coffee in the Dormy giving us much needed fuel before playing the King's course.  It was extra special as we were the last group allowed to play the course before it closed in readiness for the Senior Open.

The composite match involved four clubs; Dunbracken(Gleneagles), St Rule, Glasgow and Blairgowrie - twenty-four ladies in total!

The format was the 2 best stableford scores to count (from teams of four players), which was very kind, as it was an extremely challenging course.  During the round players were invited to stop at the impressive halfway house where we could enjoy drinks, snacks and even ice cream!

The winning team were Anne (Dunbracken), Fiona (Glasgow), Christine (St Rule) and Maggie (Blairgowrie) with 88 points.

Post golf we exchanged stories of our round over a delicious meal, which topped off a truly spectacular day!

Thanks go to the Blairgowrie ladies, Fiona Edwards, Jo Menzies, Anne Walker, Morna Bell, Heather Dawson and Maggie Marshall (Team Captain) for giving up their time to represent the club.

Blairgowrie Ladies played Ladybank Ladies to a 2-2 drawn match on a blustery day which turned into a lovely evening. A few too many bunkers today!!  Thanks to Sheila Bruce, Sue Waddell, Marion Kay, Jo Menzies, Heather Dawson, Lorraine MacGregor and Brenda Kerr for representing the club. BLAIRGOWRIE LADIES V THE GLASGOW GOLF CLUB 29th JUNE 2026

We had great fun with Glasgow Golf Club ladies on Monday. Their ladies' section was set up in 2020; the club itself in 1787, the ninth oldest in the world!

Glorious weather followed us around the course, with the usual on/off of sweaters and outer garments, but no rain🤗
Glasgow won 3-1...but new friends made and looking forward to 2027 at Killermont, also designed by Tom Morris.
Thanks to Anne Walker, Shirley Lewis, Marion Kay, Jo Menzies, Fiona Edwards, Denise Ginley and Maggie Marshall for their support.

FRIENDLY MATCH V ST RULE AWAY 6TH JULY 2026

FRIENDLY MATCH v ST RULE 6 JULY

It was a pleasure, as always to travel to St Andrews to play on the Eden Course. We received a very warm welcome in the clubhouse where we met up with old friends and new faces before venturing out to experience some testing links golf.

The course was in superb condition and we all enjoyed our matches and the excellent company .... despite the gusty wind and brief spell of rain!!

All games were keenly contested, however our hosts were once again able to take home advantage, winning 3-1.

Post play we enjoyed a delicious two course meal in the lovely St Rule Club where thanks were extended to our playing partners, the catering team and of course to Liz Fertacz, Elaine Robson (team captain), Fiona Edwards, Anne Walker, Maggie Marshall, Lesley McPherson, Gill Tissell and Anne Farquharson for giving up their time to represent the Club.

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL 28TH JUNE 2026

It was a beautiful day but windy which made some of the shots our two finalists, Alison Gow and Fiona Johnston, played all the more special.  It started very even, one going one up and then the other but towards the turn Alison started to edge ahead and made it a tough battle for Fiona to come back from.

Well played to both ladies and congratulations to the new Ladies Champion, Alison Gow.

PROSTATE CANCER DAY 18TH JUNE

Ladies,

On behalf of myself, Maggie and Elaine, we would like to say a huge THANK YOU to every single person who donated, shared our story, encouraged us and supported us during our recent challenge of playing 45 holes of golf in one day at The Blairgowrie Golf Club in aid of Prostate Cancer UK.

On Thursday 18th June, we walked approximately 18 kilometres, battled tired legs, sore feet and a few challenging holes along the way, but thanks to your incredible generosity, every step was worthwhile.

We are absolutely delighted to have raised £5,135 as a ladies team, helping contribute to more than £17,000 raised overall by the 8 teams of 3, playing on the day. This is an achievement we could never have reached without your support.

This challenge was about much more than golf. It was about raising awareness of a major disease that affects 1 in 8 men, encouraging earlier diagnosis, and helping fund research that can save lives. We have seen first-hand how early detection can make all the difference, and if our efforts encourage even one more man to get checked sooner, then every mile walked and every golf ball struck was worth it.  Sadly, 1 in 3 men in Scotland only receive diagnosis when it’s too late.

Your kindness, generosity and messages of support kept us going throughout the day and reminded us why we were doing this. Knowing so many people were behind us gave us the determination to finish all 45 holes with smiles on our faces.

From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for helping us make a difference and for supporting such an important cause.

Together, we are helped to create a future where more men receive an earlier diagnosis and have a better chance of successful treatment.

With sincere gratitude,

Pauline, Maggie & Elaine

TRI-MATCH WITH ST RULE AND TURNBERRY AT HOME 18TH JUNE

We welcomed teams from St. Rule and Turnberry in overcast conditions.  The format was teams of three with the two best Stableford scores out of three counting.  This made for a very friendly and relaxed game.  All the visitors were complimentary about the course and there were some very good scores.  We had some rain towards the end of our rounds but this did not detract from the enjoyment of the day.  The winning team, with a fantastic score of 90, was Denise Ginley, Fiona Mackie from St. Rule and Claire Erskine from Turnberry.

A delicious two-course meal was served after the match and the winners were presented with a small memento.

We look forward to next year's match which will be held at Turnberry.

MATCH FRIENDLY BLAIRGOWRIE V EDZELL AWAY 15TH JUNE 2026

Our ladies enjoyed a keenly fought match against Edzell.  The course was in excellent condition, there was no rain but the temperature is still struggling to feel like a summer's day.  The Edzell ladies were very welcoming and helpful during the round.  Sad to see that they lost so many trees in the great storm  of 2022 it has changed the look of some of the holes. Some of our ladies played there for the first time and really enjoyed the challenge especially on the back nine.

We had an excellent meal after the match and good to see lots of members enjoying the restaurant facility.

The ladies from Edzell won 3 1/2 to 1/2 despite our best efforts.

Thanks go to Sue Waddell, Meriel Walker, Carolyn Haddow, Louise Luke, Gill 'Tissell, Mary Miller, Lorraine MacGregor and Heather Dawson (team captain)

HANDICAP LEAGUE CRIEFF V BLAIRGOWRIE AT HOME 14TH JUNE

We welcomed the ladies from Crieff to play in the handicap league match at home on Sunday, 14 June.

Rosemount looked stunning in the sunshine, which was a lovely change from recent adverse weather conditions of thunderstorms and rain.

All matches were keenly contested with one match being played to the last putt!

The matches were played competitively but in good spirits and it was obvious that everyone enjoyed each other's company, regardless of the score.

The match was halved at 2.5 / 2.5.

Post golf we swapped stories of our respective games over some drinks and biscuits.

Thanks go to Jo Menzies, Maggie Marshall (Team Captain), Lesley McPherson, Teresa Lynch and Elaine Robson for giving up their time to represent the club.

Maggie Marshall

HANDICAP LEAGUE KING JAMES VI V BLAIRGOWRIE AWAY 8TH JUNE

The King James VI away handicap league match saw the team beat the rain into the clubhouse and secure a 3-2 victory.  This was a welcome reversal after last year's home defeat.  The evenly matched pairings and low shots given reflected the close contest, with one match going to the 18th and a grudge return match win.  A special thanks goes to the team for their trip: Jo Menzies (team captain), Judith Carmichael, Morna Bell, Elaine Robson and Heather Dawson

MATCH FRIENDLY BLAIRGOWRIE V ALYTH AWAY 1ST JUNE 2026

Friendly Match v Alyth - Monday 1 June

At 11.30am on Monday morning the team Captain’s were discussing whether to play the match given the weather forecast of constant rain all afternoon. Thankfully it was agreed to play as despite commencing all 4 matches in the rain the skies cleared and we enjoyed a dry afternoon.

The course was in excellent condition, the undulating greens as always proved tricky for the Blairgowrie ladies with no putt being flat or straight! All matches were keenly contested, with plenty of chat and laughter. However, despite our best endeavours, the result was a 4–0 win to the home side.

Following our golf, we all enjoyed a one course meal in the Clubhouse. Many thanks to Maggie Marshall, Pauline Hill, Janice Lang, Eileen Brown, Sue Waddell (team captain), Elaine Robson, Fiona Johnston and Louise Luke for giving up their time to represent the Club.

Wee Course Ladies, Committee and Senior Ladies Texas Scramble

We were very lucky today with a lovely morning, no wind and warm, playing the annual Wee Course Ladies and Ladies committee Texas Scramble.  Shortly after we finished the heavens opened, rain, thunder and lightning.

It was a fun event with a mix of players.  Scores were excellent with the winners having a nett 25.  Heather Welsh, Wee Course Captain, presented the prizes.

Our winners today were Jacqui Landsburgh, Janet MacKenzie, Susan Smith and Eileen McMurray.

Runners-up were Kathy Cameron, Margaret Sturrock, Janice Lang and Angie Nowasad

HANDICAP LEAGUE PERTH LADIES V BLAIRGOWRIE AT HOME

The Blairgowrie Ladies welcomed Perth Ladies on Bank Holiday Monday to play in our first match of the new Handicap Season.  The weather was beautiful with warm sunshine which lasted till almost 9.30 pm,  with first match teeing off at 5 pm.

Most of the games were very close, with players relying on final putts on the 18th hole to win the game.

Following the match both teams enjoyed tea/coffee or soft drinks in the clubhouse, where a vote of thanks were expressed by both Team Captains on the night.

As Team Captain I would like to thank the team of Mary Miller, Jo Menzies, Elaine Robson and Louise Luke for their contributions.  Blairgowrie came home winners with a 3-2 result

Fiona Johnston

ACADEMIA CLASSIC MATCH AWAY AT DUNKELD AND BIRNAM

We had a beautiful sunny day for our 2nd round Academia Classic Fixture away to Dunkeld and Birman.  The course is challenging, one with undulating terrain, elevated tees and greens and, on a couple of holes, water courses, but the views are spectacular all the way round.  Pauline Hill kindly provided everyone with 'Strokesaver' information to help us navigate the course which proved very useful.  Club choice is crucial and the home ladies used their knowledge in this respect to good advantage.  Good golf was played by both teams in this singles matchplay event, but Dunkeld just edged it with a 3-2 win.

thanks to the Blairgowrie ladies Claire Bidwell, Teresa Lynch, Maggie Marshall, Pauline Hill and Gill Tissell (Team Captain)
