BURNS SUPPER 2014

The Clubhouse was packed last night for the 2014 Burns Supper, and what a  fine evening it was.  The  Social Committee  had laid on a  great programme of speakers, musical entertainment and the traditional  Bill o' Fare. Judging from the  merriment at the tables, a good time was  had  by all. The Toast to the Lassies  turned out to be a surprise  musical serenade by Mike Mooney.  The reply was delivered by Lady Captain, Margaret Hunter.  (Thanks, ladies for the great applause!)

The Club Captain Alisdair Drummond  paid special tribute to Liz Fertacz, the Social Convener, who is stepping down after several years at the helm of the Social Committee.  Liz has been the driving force of the committee and responsible for the many great evenings  which members and friends have enjoyed at the club. It's not quite Goodbye, Liz will be on hand to advise on some of the special events planned for the coming year, but she says she is definitely taking a back seat! Thanks Liz....

FROM THE LADY CAPTAIN

•  Winter League
We have been trying out a Draw for Winter League on Fridays and so far most players seem in favour of the Draw.  The Committee has decided, therefore,  to retain a Draw for the rest of the Winter Season.  But please be assured if you want to turn up ON THE DAY you can do so, just come to the Locker Room  and a  random Draw will be made for on-the-day ladies to follow on the official Draw.  A Committee Member will be there, so you are guaranteed  a partner.

•
Annual Meeting
The result of the  Members' preference  slips for the time of the Annual Meeting was 57.5% for the morning and 42.5% for the evening, with 4  spoilt papers (i.e. no name).  I really do not feel the case for a morning meeting is overwhelming, bearing in mind a morning meeting would effectively  bar any working lady from  attending future  Annual Meetings. I did consult the Managing Secretary as to the availability of the Clubhouse for a morning meeting and was advised  that holding a meeting in the lounge would have its difficulties. The time of the Annual Meeting will remain at 6.00pm.

UPDATE : January 15th.  The Managing Secretary has advised me that  he was advised on January 10th 2014  that with effect from 1st October 2014, there will no longer be a VAT restriction on the use of the dining room  and that it will be available for meetings.  The Committee will discuss this development at the next Committee Meeting.

•  Ladies Levy 2014
The Ladies Levy has stayed the same  at £3.00 for several years. Costs, alas, have not stayed the same.  The Committee is considering various options  regarding the levy and an announcement will be made shortly.

WINTER LEAGUE 10/01/2014

Lady Captain Margaret Hunter, Margaret Kerr and Linda Rice
There was a great turn out for Winter League on Rosemount today, with everyone saying how pleased they were to get back to golf after the festive season.  This was the first meeting  of the year,  so we decided to give three prizes.

1st Margaret Hunter 44 (bih)                   1st Barbara Cuthbert    40
2nd Margaret Kerr 44                               2nd Doreen Johnston  42
3rd Linda Rice 45                                     3rd  Birte Buckett  44

Doreen Johnston, Lady Captain, Birte Buckett & Barbara Cuthbert
Note : The Lady Captain hopes that winning today  is not the highlight of her year - and 40 points for Barbara Cuthbert, what a fantastic score!  Well done to all the winners.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Winter League was washed out this morning, but two brave ladies  decided to  tough it  out on Rosemount in the rain. Well done Katy Chapman and Louise Whitehead. The weather forecast is dire for next week,  so IF THE COURSE IS CLOSED, there will be a get-together with a  fun quiz in the lounge from 10.00am.
