FRIENDLY MATCH AT DOWNFIELD G.C. - MONDAY 25TH JULY

The morning rain cleared and our ladies enjoyed good weather in our friendly match away at Downfield today.  Unfortunately the home team were only able to field a team of six.  Rather than decide who was not going to play, we went with a full team and the six players were picked based on the least number of matches played to date.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on which way you looked at it, Meriel Walker and Anne Farquharson played in front of the three matches and enjoyed the course without the stress of playing match play.

Thanks go to Sue Waddell (Captain), Linda Rice, Carolyn Haddow, Maggie Marshall, Gill Tissell and Lorraine MacGregor for representing the club.  All had a very enjoyable afternoon, the course was in fantastic condition, helped by the significant rain over the weekend which had taken some pace off the greens.   After the match we all enjoyed an excellent two course meal in the clubhouse.  The result was a loss of 2/1.

LADIES TRI-AM OPEN RESULTS - 24TH JULY

The Ladies Tri-Am Open held on Sunday 24th July was fully subscribed with 44 groups taking part in the 'Waltz' format.  Although the weather held for the early players, the later groups were caught in heavy rain, although thankfully no thunderstorms.

Some Blairgowrie ladies featured among the prizewinners:

Mary Miller, together with Cruden Bay members June Cowie and Rachael McLean, won the Best Nett prize.  Fifth best nett went to Liz Fertacz, Heather Anderson and Gillian Wallace.

Full details of all the scores and prizewinners can be found in the Opens Section of the Club website.

SENIOR OPEN QUALIFYING AT BLAIRGOWRIE - MONDAY 18TH JULY

Blairgowrie hosted a Senior Open Qualifying Competition on both Rosemount and Lansdowne today in sweltering conditions.  Approximately 230 players completed for a handful of places in the Senior Open taking place at Gleneagles this week.  The players were complimentary about the condition of the courses and they certainly proved a challenge for some.  The final qualifiers will be decided once all scores are in.

Many club members supported the organisers with various duties during the competition and practice days, including managing the car park, starting, scoreboard, ball spotting etc.  Here are a few of the ladies who were on duty.

FRIENDLY MATCH AGAINST LADYBANK - TUESDAY 12TH JULY

We enjoyed wonderful conditions when we welcomed the visiting ladies from Ladybank on 12th July.  The course was in excellent condition and the match was played in warm sunshine and a cloudless sky.  Thanks and congratulations to Elaine Robson (Captain) and her team of Eileen McMurray, Ruth Watson, Anne Farquharson, Marion Kay, Katie Chapman, Maggie Marshall and Meriel Walker, who brought home an impressive 4-0 win.  Despite being defeated, the visitors expressed their compliments and thanks for their amazing day at our Club.

ANNODATA MATCHPLAY CHAMPIONSHIPS

The third round draw in the Annodata Championships was an away match to Kirriemuir.  The Blairgowrie team of Mary Miller (Captain), Anne Farquharson, Susan Arbuckle, Liz Fertacz and Fiona Johnston was outdone by the hosts, but all enjoyed playing the Kirriemuir course, which was in excellent condition, on a fine day.  The result was a 3 1/2 - 1 1/2 win for Kirriemuir.

Thanks to everyone for playing - there's always next year ...!

MATCHES .......

Friendly Match against St Rules Ladies - Monday 4th July

The sun shone, the Eden course was immaculate and the wind blew!  We were made very welcome by the St. Rule ladies as always.  The Old Course is being set up for the 150th Open which made it very special to be playing in the centre of it all.  Our pairings were very evenly matched.  Blairgowrie had two wins from Christine Ogilvie and Jacqui Landsburgh and Sheila Bruce and Heather Dawson.  Anne Farquharson and Carolyn Haddow had a very tight match and halved theirs and Linda Rice (team captain) and Angela Rooney just failed on theirs.  Our next treat was walking from the Eden clubhouse along the 16th, 17th and 18th holes on the Old Course up to St. Rule ladies clubhouse where we had a glass of Prosecco and a delicious afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones, strawberries, strawberry tarts and lemon posset.  A good day was enjoyed by all.

The Blairgowrie team soaking up the atmosphere!
