WINTER LEAGUE MATCH v ST MICHAELS - 27th FEBRUARY

After the heavy snow on Thursday, no-one could have anticipated that today's match against St Michaels would have been played in such beautiful weather and on full greens.  The team from Blairgowrie comprised Eileen McMurray (Captain), Sheila Bruce, Pauline Hill, Hannah Pickford, Anne Farquharson and Fiona Edwards.

The result was a friendly draw (1 1/2 - 1 1/2).  A good time was had by all and after the match the ladies enjoyed soup and sandwiches

Here are the teams ready to play

Thanks to everyone who played.  Well done!

DANCE FITNESS - Monday 14th February

The normal peace and quiet of the Clubhouse was shattered today by some rocking music coming from the Dining Room where the Dance Fitness session was in progress.  Fiona Edwards showed us some steps and got us all moving (not always in a co-ordinated fashion!) to some lively music.  We got an all-over body workout, raised our heart rates a bit and some of us found muscles we didn't know we had or hadn't used for a while.  Fiona's enthusiasm and sense of fun was catching and we all felt the benefit to our bodies and minds.

Ready to go   ...

... Fiona in action

We're trying to copy her  ...

... still smiling at the end!
For those of you unable to come today, we may arrange another session shortly.

Also, on Monday 28th March at 10.30am, Mary Hope will be leading a Pilates class.  For this you will need a mat or towel, a golf ball and some comfortable clothing.  All welcome.

Winter League & Stanley Clark - Friday 11th August

We continue to enjoy fine weather for our Winter League (OK so it was a bit nippy!) and a good number of ladies playing.  The bumpy frosty ground made putting a bit tricky, to say the least, but the following players obviously coped very well:

Division 1 Winner - Eileen McMurray (43); Runner-up - Janice Lang (46)

Division 2 Winner - June Dargie (34); Runner-up - Elaine Robson (37)

Wee Course Winner - Anne Spence (25) on c/b; Runner-up - Jeannie Webster (25)

DON'T FORGET THE DANCE EXERCISE SESSION ON MONDAY 14TH FEBRUARY AT 10.30am.  This is a fun event suitable for all.

PERTH & KINROSS SPOTY SHORTLIST

Congratulations to the Perth & Kinross Ladies County Team on being shortlisted for P&K Sports Personality Team of the Year.  After their fantastic win in the Ladies Scottish County Finals in 2021, this is well-deserved.  Three members of Blairgowrie GC - Jillian Milne, Katy Alexander and Megan Ashley - played in the County team.

Also shortlisted, in the Volunteer of the Year Category, is Blairgowrie & King James VI member, Moira Lumby.   She's in good company, as other nominees for awards include Eve Muirhead and Laura Muir.

Well done and good luck ladies!

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at Perth Museum on Friday 4th March.

Winter League (Rosemount) - Friday 4th February

There were several very good scores in today's Winter League competition played on a cold but sunny day.

In Division 1 Anne Farquharson continued her winning streak with a score of 41; Sheila Ritchie was runner-up with a 42.  In Division 2, the winner was Denise Ginley with a fantastic 37, closely followed by Elaine Robson with 38 and another excellent score of 39 put Lorraine McGregor in third place.

On the Wee Course there was also good scoring - Heather Welsh won on countback to Shirley Irvine with 24 points.

Well done to all.

Our next Winter Social event will be Dance Exercise on Monday 14th February at 10.30am (not 10.00 as previously advised! ) Everyone is welcome to join this fun event.

LADIES BRIDGE

We had three tables for Ladies Afternoon Bridge in the dining room yesterday and everyone agreed it was great to be back playing face-to-face bridge after almost two years.  Hopefully the bridge meetings can now continue every Tuesday until the end of the Winter season.

In the event of a sudden change in the weather, ie heavy snowfalls, resulting in the course being closed, we are suggesting ladies could meet for informal bridge practice sessions at the Club, to help less experienced players gain confidence .... while having some fun!  Full details will be posted on the Blog if this happens.

Looking ahead Noreen Fordyce and Margaret Hunter are working on a series of Bridge Lessons for newcomers for next year.  As always, the Blog will keep you advised.
