FLAG RAISING AT BLAIRGOWRIE

This was a memorable day for myself, as your Lady Captain for the 2018-19 season.  I had great pleasure in welcoming Peter Inglis, the Club Captain, to join me in raising the New Club Flag on our Opening Day of the Summer season, with both team members looking on.   Thank you ladies for making it a great day for Margaret and myself.

LADIES OPENING DAY

Nine thirty on Friday morning the sun was shinning and 18 ladies met to play a Shotgun Start on the Wee Course at 10.00 am.  Following their game, the ladies joined those members playing Rosemount  to raise the Club Flag and have the Ladies group photograph taken.

While the rest of us were playing Rosemount, the Wee Course Ladies, enjoyed a light lunch in the clubhouse, joined by a number of Social members.  Thank you ladies for supporting the day, you got the best of the weather.

Fiona Johnston, Ladies Captain presents
The Friendship Bowl to Margaret Kerr Vice Captain

Today 42 ladies played over the Rosemount course, to celebrate the Opening of the Summer Season, in a Greensome Stableford. Although the weather was cooler than the morning, with the sun diving behind the clouds, the day stayed dry for us all.  All the matches were very close, with the Vice Captain winning 6-5.

Following a complementary drink, 34 ladies enjoyed a one course meal with coffee and shortbread. There was a lively atmosphere in the diningroom prior to the presentation of the Friendship Bowl.  Well done Margaret and a big thank you to all the ladies who joined us today.

Next week is a Mixed Draw Stableford.

BLAIRGOWRIE GOLF CLUB LADIES LOYALTY CARDS

The Loyalty Card is only one aspect of the Club's ongoing Strategy Plan, in relation to the future developments at Blairgowrie Golf Club. The aim and use of the card is to encourage more Ladies and Girls to play golf at the club, with the intention that the user becomes a member of the club thereafter.

It is an "Introductory" Card , with the user being introduced by an existing club member and with whom they should play their initial game at the club. This introduction, thereby allows the Loyalty card user to get to know other club members and view club facilities. After the initial game, the Loyalty card user would be able to play on their own or with another member.

The card will be monitored via the Pro-shop when the user makes contact to book a time to play and have the card stamped.  The card is limited to 10 rounds on each of the courses, £5.00 for the Wee course and £10.00 for Rosemount and Lansdown respectfully.

This programme will be monitored closely and reviewed on an on-going basis.  It is also in line with Scottish Women's Golf's ethos of attracting more girls and ladies to play golf at all levels. There is no age limit, only an interest in Golf.

Any Lady member may approach the Ladies Committee for a card to introduce someone to the club.  Each Committee member holds 10 cards.  The lady member's name will be recorded and that of the person they are introducing, along with that person's contact details, which in turn will be passed to the office.

We hope this will help increase the numbers in our Ladies Section.

LADIES GET-TOGETHER

Last night 56 lady members attended our first Social get together of 2019, to celebrate the start of our new Summer season.  The ladies enjoyed a glass of wine, mock-tails or a soft drinks before sitting down in the Dining-room for a one course meal followed by coffee and cake.  Karyn Dallas, National coach for Scotland Girls' Golf, under 18's, was the after Dinner Speaker.
Karyn Dallas with the Lady Captain Fiona Johnston

Karyn delivered an entertaining and humorous talk on Course Management, Focus and the importance of Nutrition before and during game play. She clearly described the part nutrition plays in helping players keep their concentration and why a player's focus can dip at certain times.  The main emphasis was on eating regularly, around every 3 holes and ensuring you drink plenty of water.  Her delivery was interactive with the ladies which made for a very relaxed and social evening. Time was set aside for questions and she provided a receipt and handout for recording your personal targets.  Copies of both will be photocopied and available to members in the Locker-room.

Many thanks to Angie and staff for the wonderful mock-tails and to Elaine and Garry for a beautifully presented meal and surroundings.

Have a great season Ladies and enjoy.

Muriel McPherson - 58 - 13 = 45

Today, although cold to begin with, 23 ladies ventured out to play the final round of the Winter League and as in previous weeks the scores were very close. Due to recent frost we were back on Winter greens, which proved tricky at times, however, this did not deter Jo from chipping in for a birdie on the 2nd green.

Congratulations also goes to Doreen Johnston who had a hole in one on the 1st on the Wee Course.

Next week, the 15th March is the Mad March Medley, teams of 3 and a mixed draw and on the 22nd, a Texas Scramble, again teams of 3 and a mixed draw.  The 29th March sees the start of our New Summer Season with the Captain v Vice Captain match, which is now open online. LAST WINTER SOCIAL FOR 2019

Well done Lis, a Great Morning

Today was our last Winter Social of the season, and for those who attending, there were skills to learn, beauty to be seen and an air of relaxation as Lis Ridsdale shared her knowledge with the group. Lis took us step by step through the process of creating different size floral displays.  We were all given the opportunity to create our own, with the finished article being pleasing, I'm sure, to our own eye.  The numbers today, may have been affected by the golf coaching sessions which were in full swing, please excuse the pun, however, all present had a great morning.

I would like to thank Lis again and also to extend an overwhelming thanks to Jo Stuart and Pauline Hill for co-ordinating all the Socials for us this winter.  Thank you.

The Committee will be looking for your suggestions later in the year for 2020, so please put on your thinking caps as these events need planning.

WINTER SOCIAL REMINDER

Please note that our last Winter Social for this season is on Monday 4th March, with our own Lis Ridsdale entertaining us with her Flower display skills.  I would ask you to come along to support Lis and pick some new tips.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lady members who have given up their time to volunteer to deliver a very interesting programme of activities since the turn of the New Year.  My thanks also goes to Jo Stewart and Pauline Hill for having co-ordinated the programme and introduced us to some new activities and adventures which have proved popular.

Many thanks again to all

A fantastic turnout of 27 ladies on the first official day of Spring and of course St David's Day. The sun shone for most of the round and it was wonderful to see the fairways looking so good in advance of our New Summer Season at the end of the month. Scores were very close, but Caroline had an outstanding score of Net 44.

In the clubhouse, the ladies enjoyed refreshments and some a light lunch, followed by the Lady Captain updating the members on March's forth coming events and the presentation of today's golf balls. Next Friday 8th March, is the final game of the Winter League and the Stanley Clark Trophy, so it is all to play for.  Good luck to all.
