HANDICAP REMINDER

Ladies

This is a reminder that, in order to retain your handicap and to be able to play in competitions next year, then by the end of this season  you should have submitted cards showing you have played 54 holes of golf ( eg  3 cards of 18 holes over Rosemount or Lansdowne) or, if you have been limited for time, then 3 cards of 9 holes  ( eg over The Wee Course. )

These cards may be from competitions, or you can hand in extra cards. Remember to tell Reception if you are going out to do an extra card and hand the card into reception once you have finished, signed by your playing partner.

Please check your Handicap status under Master Scoreboard, Handicap List.

There is still time to make sure you have submitted the requisite number of cards.

UNDERSTANDING THE RULES OF GOLF 4

Ground Under Repair

The other day I was looking at the notices on the Club Notice Board and saw the one relating to Ground Under Repair. The notice states, “ if a player's ball lies in this area, the player must take relief under Rule 25-1 ”. There is no could, should or maybe about it, the player must take relief or receive a 2 stroke penalty in stroke play or loss of hole in matchplay for not doing so.
To take relief, the player finds the nearest point of relief using the club they would normally play the next shot with. Then from that point measures 1 club length ( A driver can be used for this measurement). The player then drops the ball within the 1 club length, which of course has been marked at either end with a tee peg. If the ball rolls more than two club lengths, then it must be redropped. There are other situations where you might have to re-drop which are illustrated below.
Now one very important point to remember is that you must take complete relief. For example if by chance when having dropped your ball and your foot just touches the edge of the area you are taking relief from, you must re-drop and obtain complete relief, otherwise you could be penalised two strokes in Strokeplay or loss of hole in matchplay

FRIENDLY MATCH AT DUNBRACKEN (GLENEAGLES)

Friendly Match at Gleneagles on Monday 9th July 2018

THE WINNING TEAM

The ladies team of Mary Miller (captain), Sheila Bruce, Julie Wink, Susan Arbuckle, Maureen Brass and Jacqui Landsburgh represented Blairgowrie at Gleneagles on Monday 9th July. The first rain for weeks greeted us as we arrived for coffee and bacon rolls, however it was not long before the now familiar blue skies and sunshine broke through after the first few holes.

We had the pleasure of playing the Queens Course in teams of 6 people from 4 clubs: Dunbracken (Gleneagles), Elie, Turnberry and Blairgowrie, making up a total of 6 mixed teams of 4. The format was 4BBB with the winning team having a score of 91 stableford points ( there was a lot of run on the scorched fairways!). We finished a great day out with an excellent high tea in the Dormie House.

Thank you to Jacqui Landsburgh, the organiser for this match.

HOLE IN ONE FOR MAUREEN

Congratulations to Maureen Brass who scored a Hole in One on Friday 6th July on the 17th Hole on Rosemount.

Maureen was playing with Emily Aird, her playing partner, and used a 5 Wood to reach the green.  The pin was on the lower level but near the slope.  As they approached the green Emily said that she thought that the ball was resting against the flagpole. As the flagpole was very carefully removed the ball dropped into the hole.

This is Maureen's second Hole in One, the first was on the 14th on Lansdowne some years ago.

Well done Maureen!

Anne Walker, Sheila Ritchie,Miriam Rooney, Eileen McMurray,Jan Kennedy, Margaret Mc Glashan, Barbara Cuthbert and Katie Chapman (Captain ) represented Blairgowrie Ladies in the friendly match against Ladybank on Wednesday, 4th July. The sun shone from a cloudless sky, and some ladies ' sheltered ' under their brollies from the hot sunshine. The result was a win for Blairgowrie , 21/2 - 11/2. It was with some relief that we retired to the clubhouse for a long, cold drink and delicious meal.
Many thanks to Sheila Ritchie, the Organiser for this match.
