IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING THE LADIES VS SENIOR GENTS

An unprecedented number of ladies, 33, signed up for the match against the Senior Gents. Unfortunately there were only 24 places. In previous years the gents have experienced a similar situation when 40 men signed up for the 24 places.

The Captain asked the Vice Captain and two committee members to assist in making the draw, as it was known that some ladies would be disappointed at not being chosen. Names were put on pieces of paper and split it into three groups: 0-12 handicap, ladies committee and all other ladies. Names were then drawn out of a hat. This was done with the utmost fairness with 4 people witnessing the process. It is tradition that ladies whose husbands are playing are automatically allowed to play. After taking out the Captain, Vice Captain and the eight wives, that left 14 places. This resulted in some committee members not playing as their names did not come out in draw.

It is disappointing to hear that some ladies have withdrawn from The Captain vs Vice Captain as they think they were left out on purpose and are threatening not to attend other events. We can assure everyone that this is not the case. As stated before, the draw process was conducted with total fairness.

Please note that the sign up for the Captain vs Vice Captain closes at 10am on Wednesday.

LADIES' GET TOGETHER

Over sixty ladies attended a most enjoyable ladies' get together at the club. The evening started with a glass of bubbly on arrival. Afterwards the ladies were welcomed by the Lady Captain Elizabeth Davie and then everyone was treated to some pre dinner entertainment by Gordon Howe playing Robert Burns' tunes on his fiddle. Before the meal, Linda Rice recited a suitable grace that prepared us all for our food and the golfing season. A delicious meal was served and afterwards, guest speaker Bill Samuel, kept the ladies highly entertained with his thoughts on truth and lies! Gordon then played some more well known jigs after which the evening was drawn to a close with a vote of thanks from the Captain. Below are some pictures giving a flavour of the evening.

THE MAIL ON SUNDAY CLASSIC

Blairgowrie Ladies played Dunkeld Ladies yesterday at Dunkeld Golf Club in this annual match play competition. This match should have taken place on Rosemount, however, as Blairgowrie could not provide a full summer course, Dunkeld were entitled to, and did, claim home advantage.
Blairgowrie put up a valiant fight on the day, but eventually lost 3.5 - 1.5. A very big thank you to our team - Mary Hope (Captain), Margaret Hunter, Moira Begbie, Heather Dawson and Barbara Lyburn. Thanks must also go to Jacquie Landsburgh who was a member of our original team.

MAD MARCH MEDLEY AND TEXAS SCRAMBLE

The Winter Season is now drawing to a close and soon we will be competing in the Mad March Medley (Friday 20th March) and the Texas Scramble (Friday 27th March) on the Lansdowne Course. These competitions are designed to be 'fun warm ups' to get us used to playing more than twelve holes of golf. However, it has been decided by the Ladies' Committee that inorder to ease ourselves in, we will not play the 7th and 8th holes.
Also for those ladies who would like to play only nine holes on the 20th and 27th March, then there will be a competition on the Wee Course at the same time as the Lansdowne competitions starting at 10:30. Captain Elizabeth Davie and Vice Captain Meg Marshall will both be available at the first tee of the Wee Course to make a draw and play with any lady who turns up. This is open to all ladies, no matter what membership category they are or even if they don't have a handicap, they can play in these 9 hole competitions on the 20th and 27th of March.
