LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY

Group photo prior to Texas Scramble on Rosemount

On Friday 27th September 58 ladies signed up to play in the Lady Captain's Day 3 Team Texas Scramble, 40 on Rosemount and 18 on the Wee Course. The format certainly created a good team atmosphere and from the photos taken in the lounge after the event everyone seemed to be embracing our 130 years celebrations.  The Lady Captain, dressed up for the occasion in her kilt and bunnet, and some other ladies wore a variety of items relating to 1889.  When the Lady Captain came on to the 1st hole she was piped onto the tee via iPad.  On the 18th green the ladies had to put out with a Hickory putter and pay a pound if they landed in the Captain's Greenside bunker.

After the game, a number of Social members joined the players to enjoy a complimentary glass of wine or mocktails created by Angie.  In the dining room the ladies sat down to a wonderful hot/cold buffet and Cup-cakes decorated with 130 years.  The atmosphere was lively while the members enjoyed the rest of their afternoon which included the presentation of prizes for both courses.  Once again it was good to see our newest members join in the activities, playing on the Wee Course, but intending to become full members next year.

Mary Miller gave the vote of thanks to the Lady Captain, Gary and Elaine, caterers and Angie and her bar staff for a great day.

LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY 2019

The Lady Captain's Day usually takes place in August, but torrential rains meant  the event had to be re-scheduled for today, Friday 27th September.  The weather  did not behave today, but most groups managed to complete their rounds in dry conditions.  Here are a some pictures to give you a flavour of a happy day. FRIENDLY AWAY TO EDZELL

This was a re-arranged fixture due to poor weather in August.  Sue Waddell was Captain for the day and provided the following report.

We all thoroughly enjoyed our games this afternoon.  We were extremely lucky with the weather with warm, dry and calm playing conditions, which was a pleasant surprise for September.  The course was in excellent condition although the greens had been scarified which made the putting a bit more of a challenge.    The score was 2-2, a fair result.

After the match we enjoyed an excellent two course meal and we look forward to welcoming the Edzell Ladies to Blairgowrie next year.

OUTING TO LADYBANK ON 25TH SEPTEMBER

I would like to thank Margaret Hunter for travelling to Ladybank Golf Club to join us, even although she was unable to play due to her ongoing shoulder injury.  Margaret as you will see still utilised her skills by collating the cards and taking the photos of our outing.

30 ladies travelled to Ladybank, 24 on the coach to participate in a day of fun golf.  Although the coach was slightly late in leaving Blairgowrie, the ladies were still on time to have their bacon rolls and coffee prior to going on the first tee at 11.40.  The Ladybank Lady Captain had been present to greet us and passed on her well wishes via Mary Hope who was able to chat with her before our arrival.

The format of the day was Individual stroke play over 18 holes and a team event of 2 scores from 3 on Stableford points for the team prize.  Following the golf all the ladies enjoyed a two course meal with a light refreshment and loads of chat and laughter.  At one point the group joined in as the Lady Captain broke into song.

The winners on the day were :-
1st Scratch Silver - Gillian Wallace, 1st Handicap Fiona Johnston.
1st Scratch Bronze - Katie Chapman, 1st Handicap Brenda Kerr.
                              N/P Silver - Eileen McMurray
                              N/P Bronze - Heather Dawson
Longest Drive Silver - Gillian Wallace
Longest Drive Bronze - Meriel Walker

Team Prize - Gillian Wallace, Anglea Rooney and Mary Miller

The service within the clubhouse was excellent and very relaxed, to the extent that the group were asked to have their photo taken on the 18th green with the caterers.

The day I feel was a great success, taking in all the feedback given from our ladies on the way home.  The weather held with only slight rain at the beginning of the day, this adding to the great value of a day's Golf Outing costing only £35.00 all inclusive.

Thank you ladies for providing me with another wonderful day in my Captaincy.

LAST TUAP OF THE YEAR!

Where has the year gone? Our last
Turn Up & Play will be  next week on Tuesday 24th September on Rosemount. This date clashes with the SVLGA Championships being held at Blairgowrie from Sunday to Tuesday....but the SVLGA ladies will be on Lansdowne on Tuesday.  The Clubhouse will be busy, however, so can  we meet, please, in the foyer at 9.30am for a prompt 10.00am start.  If we have enough ladies we may have a mini Tri -Am, failing that it will be another fun format.

As this is the last TUAP there will also be some mystery holes with little fun prizes. The weather has been amazing this past week, so here's hoping we enjoy another fine day.

LADY CAPTAIN'S INVITATION DAY 3rd SEPTEMBER

Maggie Orr (VC)  Kirriemuir presented with the
Lady Captain's Trophy by Fiona Johnston, Lady Captain
of Blairgowrie Golf Club

This was a new event for Blairgowrie Golf Club, introduced as part of our 130 years celebrations. It brought together 24 Lady Captains from the clubs Blairgowrie Ladies are directly involved with, through the Scratch League, Handicap League, Friendlies, County, Vets and a few individual invitations to clubs who I as Lady Captain have had the pleasure to have been invited to. 30 invites originally went out, but due to other commitments 6 were not able to attend.

The weather, again, was not what we would have wanted, being overcast and a light rain, but as one Lady Captain described the event, "Despite the weather there was a lovely sunny feel to the occasion."  The Captains were served bacon rolls and coffee prior to being announced on to the first tee by Neil our starter at 1.30pm. Following the golf the ladies enjoyed a Captain's punch in the East lounge before sitting down to a two course meal in the dining room and presentation.

My thanks go to Margaret Kerr, Vice Captain for joining us to collect the cards and do the scoring on the day.  Also to Gary and Elaine for a wonderful meal, as commented on by all our visitors and to Angie for the punch.

This was a great opportunity to showcase our club and from the Captains' feedback also one which allowed Lady Captains to share ideas and make new friendships. I have already been informed by Kirriemuir's Lady Committee, as the winners, that they are in favour of hosting the event next year, following approval from their main Committee.  I must say, I had a wonderful day and a great honour as your Captain to introduce this venture.
