BEETLE DRIVE WINTER SOCIAL

There was something a little different taking place in the dining room yesterday - a Beetle Drive. Many thanks to Anne Farquharson and Elaine Robson for organising the event. We all had fun, throwing the dice and drawing our beetles; and it all got a bit competitive! We then had a couple of games of drawing the 'Lady Captain' which I then judged and presented a prize for the closest likeness to me or was it the funniest - when done Gill Tissell.

A selection of photos from yesterday's entertainment.

Our next winter social, flower arranging with Liz Ridsdale is on Monday 13 February at 10.30am in the dining room. Come and join Liz to see how to make a fantastic floral display.

WINTER LEAGUE AND STANLEY CLARK COMPETITION

At last we managed to play the Winter League and Stanley Clark Trophy competition on Lansdowne this week. A bit nippy, with very hard and frosty ground conditions. 21 ladies ventured out and once again there was some impressive scoring. Congratulations to the winners:

Division 1: Winner - Claire Bidwell (42 points); Runner-up - Carolyn Haddow (39 points).

Division 2: Winner - Elaine Robson (46 points); Runner-up - Kathy Cameron (45 points).

Claire - Winner of Division 1

Elaine - Winner of Division 2 again!

Seven ladies played in the Wee Course Winter League. The winner was Jeannie Webster with 24 points (on count back) with Shirley Irvine runner-up with 24 points. Well done to all the winners.

WINTER LEAGUE

What a beautiful morning yesterday for a game of golf. Blue sky, no wind, it was a bit chilly and definitely a day for hats, gloves and hand-warmers! The course was very frosty and in places slippy under foot, however the conditions obviously suited some of the ladies given the fantastic scores. 14 ladies ventured out on Rosemount whilst the Wee Course ladies sensibly decided to stay in the warm and enjoyed a coffee instead!

There was some very impressive scoring, especially in Division 2. Congratulations to the winners:

Division 1: Winner – Claire Bidwell (40 points); Runner-up – Carolyn Haddow (39 points).

Division 2: Winner – Elaine Robson (47 points); Runner-up – Aileen Priestley (45 points).

PUTTING WINTER SOCIAL

Today, 31 ladies enjoyed our first Winter Social event of 2023. Neil Cameron, our Club Pro gave us an excellent session on Putting. This included having the correct equipment - the right putter, consider the length and grip width; and he recommended that we consistently use the same make of golf ball (preferably soft not hard).

He gave advice on technique - eyes over the ball, look at the target, follow a routine and concentrate (chatting whilst putting is apparently a definite no no!!!).

Whilst distance and direction are clearly important, work and practice on distance first.

After a very informative lesson we had a chance to put these ideas into practice. We now have no excuse not to be able to reduce the number of putts in our rounds and reduce our scores!!

Here are a few photos of the action this morning:

Our next social event will be held on Monday 30 January at 10.30am in the dining room. Please come along and join us for some fun and test your drawing skills with Anne Farquharson at our Beetle Drive.

REMINDER - PUTTING WINTER SOCIAL

Despite the courses being opened last minute this morning, it was not possible to run the Winter League competition as two of the holes we were due to play remained closed due to the water and ice. A few ladies who did decide to come along to the Club took the opportunity to venture out and enjoyed their games. Fingers crossed for next week!

In the meantime, please come along and join our Pro, Neil Cameron on Monday 16 January in his putting master class. The action will be taking place in the dining room at 10.30am.

Improving your putting will lower your scores, so Neil tells me!! He will show you how - please remember to bring your putter!

WINTER LEAGUE COMPETITION

Unfortunately there was no Winter League Competition today as the courses remain closed. Whilst the snow and ice has now in the main disappeared the courses were closed today due to dangerous conditions underfoot. Instead of playing golf this morning I had a lovely walk around the courses and as the photos below show there is now some green grass beginning to appear. Fingers crossed the excess water and ice will clear for us to get back out on the course next week!
