SOLHEIM CUP CHARITY DAY

Moira Lumby and Brenda Kerr
with the Solheim Cup

Both Brenda Kerr and Moira Lumby represented Blairgowrie Golf Club at the Solheim Cup Charity Day, held a Crieff Golf Club on Tuesday 27th August. Both reported that this was a fabulous day, with a great turnout from the Perthshire clubs with over 64 lady golfers taking part in aid of Perthshire Women's Aid.  The buzz on the course was amazing with thanks being given to everyone who dressed up in the colours of both teams.

Europe played to victory which everyone hopes reflects the score at Gleneagles in September. I'm informed Moria and Brenda both dressed up, but no photo.  That might be a surprise yet to be witnessed.  Thank you both very much for agreeing to play and I hope you enjoyed your day, which from all accounts you did.

SENIOR LADIES INVITATION DAY

The Ladies were blessed with good weather from start to finish, with 30 pairs enjoying the sunshine, as they took on the test of the Rosemount Course in a 4 Ball Better Ball competition. Guests came from a wide variety of clubs and were welcomed by members of the Ladies Committee who gave out the cards and goodies, including tablet made by Mary Miller's fair hand.

Eight pairs also played on the Wee Course, with winners being Hazel Grant/Cath Stewart, Alyth and 2nd Ann King/Anglea Beale, Murrayshall.  Nearest the Pin was Cath Stewart.

My thanks go to Mary Miller and Carolyn Haddow for co-ordinating the event, to committee members who assisted on the day and to Margaret Kerr, VC for presenting prizes with myself at the conclusion of the day.  Gillian Wallace/Jackie Brown, Monifieth were Gross winners (75) and 1st Handicap was Val Pringle/Hazel Gibson, Murrayshall (66).  Nearest the Pin Bronze was Meriel Walker, Silver Janice Lang and nearest the line Janette Hamilton. Sheila Bruce/Ann Mailer, Pitlochry were 3rd Handicap, but were unable to stay for the prize giving.

Prior to golf, some ladies enjoyed lunch in the lounge and after other par-took in a light refreshment and light meal, including some popular specials prepared by our catering staff.  Thanks also go to the green staff for the great condition of the course and the bar staff who met our ever list of requests.

FRIENDLY WITH CRIEFF

Blairgowrie v. Crieff

At Crieff

Thursday 22nd August

We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves despite the hurricane with which we had to contend! Unfortunately we came third out of three - but Linda was in the winning team, she says thanks to her partners, although she did contribute to the points.

We all liked the format -stableford points for team(2 out of 3 scores counted), keeping individual scores, and taking 5 out of the 6 club members individual scores to get the club positions. It did keep everyone in the game.

The course was in good condition despite the rain we have had. We all enjoyed ourselves which is the main thing in theses interclub competitions.  Muckhart was the other club taking part.

Many thanks to Linda Rice for the match report.

FRIENDLY WITH PITLOCHRY

Blairgowrie v. Pitlochry

At Pitlochry

Monday 19th August 2019

The weather was sunny and dry for our match and with the course in excellent condition we enjoyed a very friendly encounter with our hosts.

I would like to congratulate all our team especially with most of the players giving shots and playing away from home, who battled to an excellent tied match.  Well done and thank you everyone.

After the match we shared good food and plenty of chat with our hosts.  We look forward to Pitlochry Ladies coming to Blairgowrie next year.

Thank you to Muriel McPherson for compiling the report for the blog.

FRIENDLY MATCHES UPDATE

We have two Matches to play, so good luck to everyone playing at Crieff and Panmure Barry - as you can see, we had a great start to the season, but we could now do with a couple of wins!

FRIENDLY MATCH AGAINST DUNBRACKEN

Blarigowrie v. Dunbracken

Dunbracken ladies unfortunately were unable to bring 8 ladies due to holidays and other commitments which we knew in advance.  However, 6 ladies were able to play from each team. The weather was good to us, a great surprize seeing how bad the weather has been of late.

The games were fairly close with one of the games going to the 18th. Dunbracken, however, took the spoils winning 2-1. Following the match the ladies enjoyed a meal in the dining room where the votes of thanks were given.

Many thanks to Mary Miller, (c), Jo Stewart, Caroline Dracup, Moira Lumby, Avril Smith and Sheila Bruce.

There are now only a few matches left and it is amazing how quickly the season has passed.

NEW DATE FOR LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY

As you all know we had to cancel Lady Captain's Day last week due to the terrible weather.  I  was extremely disappointed, but I am  very pleased to advise we now have a new date - Friday 27th September,  for Lady Captain's Day.   Please note the new time of 10.00am shotgun start.  The Committee felt it would be better to start earlier, due to the later date.

A new draw will have to be done, but catering arrangements for the buffet after play remain the same. If this  new date does not suit anyone, please ask the bar staff to take your name off the list of those staying for the meal.

This will be a busy week for the Ladies....we have our Outing to Ladybank on Wednesday 25th September...we are limited to 40 places, so do sign up at the bar if you can come...it promises to be a fun day!

Lady Captain Fiona Johnston welcomed  ten past captains today for golf, lunch and chat.  Six played a stableford on Rosemount, three went out on the Wee Course and one came along for lunch.  Liz Fertacz was the winner of the Past Captain's Trophy, the Muriel Rae Claret Jug,  and Maureen Reid won the the Wee Course Competition.

We had hoped to escape the  rain, but the last 3 holes on both courses were played in a steady downpour.  Once in the clubhouse, however, spirits lifted over a very convivial lunch. Liz Fertacz gave a vote of thanks to  Lady Captain Fiona and vice-captain Margaret Kerr for arranging the day. Maureen Reid also gave thanks on behalf of the ladies who played on the Wee Course.

FROM THE LADY CAPTAIN 9th August 2019

LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY POSTPONED

Unfortunately the weather has not been kind to us and we have taken the  decision to cancel today's  Lady Captain's Day.  The Managing Secretary and Head Greenkeeper have advised the course may be unplayable due to forecasts of heavy rain  for most of the day...and  we know that many ladies would not want to play in such atrocious conditions, even if the course was open.
A new date will be arranged for September and I shall advise the details as soon as possible
