DANCE FITNESS - Monday 27 March

The peace and quiet of the Clubhouse was shattered this morning by some rocking music coming from the dining room where the Dance Fitness session was in progress. Fiona Edwards showed us some steps and got us all moving (not always in the right direction!) to some lively music. We got an all-over body workout and found some muscles we didn't know we had or hadn't used in a while!

A big thank you to Fiona for leading the session, her sense of fun and enthusiasm was catching and we all felt the benefit to our bodies and minds.

We survived!

For those of you unable to come today, we may arrange another session shortly. So watch this space.....

Today concluded our winter social events programme. Many thanks to everyone who supported these events and to all the hosts, these events couldn't take place without you.

WINTER SOCIAL REMINDER - FUN DANCE FITNESS

Please come along and join us for our last winter social of the season - Fun Dance Fitness with Fiona Edwards. This will be held in the dining room at 10.30am on Monday 27 March.

A great way to exercise to music - suitable for all.

LADIES GET-TOGETHER

Forty two ladies came together last night to look forward to the coming season. We enjoyed a delicious meal prepared and served by Tina and her team, whilst Greg and his team kept us watered! There was a lot of chat and laughter with some new members introduced to our Ladies section.

After dinner, I ran through the main competitions and other events coming up in the 2023 season. It then gave me great pleasure to introduce Elaine Slide of Green Lamb for our fashion show. Founded in 1989 Green Lamb pioneered ladies golf fashion at a time when no one else was catering for female fashion on the course. Still to this day the brand creates exclusive collections that can be worn when playing and relaxing.

Elaine gave a very informative talk on the background of the family run business which is based in Southern Ireland. It was interesting to hear how all their clothing is made from organic cotton and how they use recycled plastic bottles in their products. With the help of our three models, Lynne Bell, Jacqui Landsburgh and Mary Miller, Elaine then provided detailed descriptions of the outfits they were wearing and their price points.

Neil Cameron, our Club Professional has very generously offered a 20% discount on not only Green Lamb clothing but all ladies clothing to everyone who attended last night. This is for a limited period only, until Sunday 26 March on presentation of your 'pink discount voucher'. So get buying ladies!

Earlier in the day we enjoyed a Texas Scramble played in very pleasant, mild conditions. The scores were very close and the results were:

Winners: Jacqui Landsburgh, Mary Miller, Gill Tissell and Meriel Walker with a score of 63.

Runners-up: Moira Campsie, Katie Chapman, Marion Kay and Sue Waddell with a score of 64.

On the Wee Course, Jeannie Webster won the 3 Club and Putter competition with 23 points and Kathleen Coupar was the runner-up with 20 points.

Here are a selection of photos from the evening.........please click on the images to enlarge.

ANNODATA UK GOLF CLUB CLASSIC

The Club has entered a Ladies Team in the annual Annodata UK Golf Club Classic event. This is a National Golf Club team event, the only one now operating in the UK.  It is a match play event with eliminating rounds being played on a knockout basis with each match consisting of five singles decided by handicap match play over 18 holes. A draw is made for each round based upon the Club's geographical location. Clubs from different counties may be drawn to play one another from round one onwards. The semi-final and final are being played at the Montecastillo Golf Resort, Cadiz, Spain.

We are looking for a 'pool' of Ladies that we can call on to represent the Club. In each round we require a team of 5. The only rule stipulations are that your Course handicap is a maximum of 24 and in order to play in the final you must have played in at least one of the earlier rounds.

If you are interested, please sign up on the Annodata UK Golf Club Classic sheet in the Ladies locker room or come and see me. We anticipate that the first round will be played at the end of April / mid May.

CATHERINE PATTERSON

Catherine Patterson (aged 96) sadly passed away on 12th February. Catherine had been a member of the Club from 1967 and became a life member during the construction of the Lansdowne Course in the 1970's. She was Ladies Captain between 1996 and 1998.

Although she had not played golf for about 15 years, the game had been an important part of her life.

In memory of her and her late husband Mark we continue to compete for the Mark Patterson Trophy played for in July and on the Wee Course the ladies play for the Catherine Patterson Trophy over 9 holes in September. You can also take a short rest on the bench they presented which is by the 13th tee on Rosemount.

WINTER LEAGUE MATCH v CRAIL - Sunday 19th February

Our final Winter League match of the season was at Crail on Sunday 19th February.  The players were welcomed with grey skies and cold, strong, winds but at least it was dry.  It was a challenge to work out which direction the balls were going to take and we spent some time chasing errant head covers, hats and trollies which were carried off by the wind.  All three matches were keenly contested, some closer than others, but the visitors managed to clinch a 2-1 victory.  After the match, we enjoyed soup and sandwiches and a friendly chat.  Thanks to the Blairgowrie ladies - Barbara Lyburn, Maggie Marshall, Hannah Hislop, Sheila Bruce, Sheila Ritchie and Gill Tissell (Team Captain).

Blairgowrie team ready to face the elements

Many thanks to Gill Tissell for captaining the match and the above match report.

This match concludes our Winter League friendly schedule. We have scored two wins and two losses over the season. Many thanks to everyone that has taken part over the winter. These matches continue to be popular and we will look to take part again in the league next year.

FEBRUARY UPDATE

Many of you will know that Iain and I have been on our travels to Australia and New Zealand during February and what a fantastic time we have had. Unfortunately at some point you have to come home....

During my absence my Vice Captain, Elaine Robson has done a fantastic job keeping all golf matters running smoothly. She even fixed the weather with the Friday Winter League Competitions all being played during February. I must go away more often!

I attach some photos from the Winter League Competitions of some of the winners and from our two winter socials that have taken place in February; flower arranging with Liz Ridsdale and Pilates with Mary Hope. Many thanks to Liz and Mary for giving up their valuable time. Also to the ladies who bought raffle tickets to win Liz's beautiful flower arrangement which raised a fantastic £100 for my charity, the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance.

I am delighted to announce that Cassy Grant has been co-opted onto the Ladies Committee and will serve until the next Annual Meeting.
