New times for Ladies Bridge on Tuesday 3rd March 2020

BRIDGE – TUESDAY 3rd MARCH,  2020

As many of you will already know, Maureen Irvine, who was a former long time member of The Blairgowrie Golf Club,  sadly passed away on Thursday 20th February after a long illness.   Her funeral  will be held on Tuesday, 3rd March, 2020  at 11.30 a.m. in Perth Crematorium.

Because of this, it is suggested that  the Ladies Tuesday Bridge Club meet at 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. instead of the usual start  time of 12.30 p.m.

Ladies Monday Social meeting - 24th February

At our Knit & Natter social get together today, we saw a good turnout of ladies who came with their knitting or other craft work along with those who came for the coffee and natter.   As the weather was cold and snowy, the ladies chose to sit in the East Lounge which was warm and enabled the ladies to sit closer together.

We welcomed Mrs Dot Bridghouse who came to uplift our knitted donations for PRI Maternity Ward and talk to us about the new systems in place for birthing etc. and the reason why  knitted bonnets and bootees were necessary.  It was a most enjoyable morning.

Winter League 21st February

Due to wet and windy conditions, the Ladies Winter League was abandoned although quite a few  ladies turned up.    However, a small group of ladies who were happy to get wet and blown about a bit  played 9  holes on the Wee Course.

Tickets (£12.75) are now on sale at the bar for the Ladies Get Together on 20th March and already a few have been purchased.

Don't forget to come for a knit-in and/or a natter this coming Monday at 10 a.m. in the dining room.

We now have a notice board alongside the Wee Course Ladies to the left of the entrance and are to display any important news and posters there.    The upstairs hall and locker room notice boards will continue to be used as previously for our entry forms and draw sheets for the various competitions.

My Newsletter is ready to go out with the Fixture Cards which should be available before the end of  February.

The start of our golfing season is looming!

Monday 24th February - Ladies Social Get Together

Starting at 10 a.m. in the Dining room on Monday, 24th February,  we have our Knit & Natter get together.

Could the ladies who are going to knit please  bring size 8 needles and double knitting wool (we think soft acrylic yarn is best).

We have arranged for the LED Nurse from PRI to join us for coffee and she will collect all donations of knitted baby  hats, bootees etc.

Please come and join us for the chatter and coffee even if you are not  knitting or crocheting.

I look forward to a natter with you all.

Indoor Bowling - 10th February

We had a snowstorm this morning which curtailed numbers.  However, we had ten ladies playing indoor bowling with Sheila Bruce as our umpire.   We also tried our hands at putting, courtesy of  putting aids from Neil.  Our thanks go to Shirley, Sheila, Heather and  Jo Stewart for organising this event.

We played a round robin and the winners after a play-off were our Vice Captain, Nora Bennet and her partner, Heather Welsh who  beat Mary Miller and myself by a narrow margin.

Our next Monday meeting will be on 24th February for Knit & Natter.   Bring any soft wool and Size 8 needles with you if you can  but please just come for a natter and a cuppa also.

Winter League

19 brave Ladies played today on Rosemount in what can only be described as sub-zero conditions - the temperature was minus 1 with freezing fog.  However, the scores did not reflect the adverse conditions.

Winner - Division 1 - Nora Bennet - net 44
               Division 2 - Liz Ridsdale - Net 42
               Wee Course - Shirley Irvine

Don't forget to come along for indoor bowling on Monday morning.

Here is a photograph of the trophy which Fiona Johnston donated in 2019 for a new competition -  Lady Captains Invitation.  The winner was Maggie Orr, Lady Captain at Kirriemuir.   The trophy will therefore be played for at Kirriemuir this year as the Lady Captain who wins keeps the trophy for one year.
