FROM THE LADY CAPTAIN

Gale force winds hit the Golf club today - but, amazingly, it did not stop some ladies playing! Well done to the brave few who ventured out....there were not quite enough players to make a valid competition, so Winter League was abandoned.

I have a special announcement to make.  Lesley Findlay and Shirley Irvine have been co-opted onto the Ladies Committee with Shirley acting as  Special Representative for the Wee Course Ladies.  Both ladies have been enthusiastic members of our Club for many years  and I am delighted they are joining the Committee.

As we approach February our golfing year is beginning to take shape.  Please keep an eye on the Blog  and Locker Room noticeboard for news of ladies events. The  sign-up sheets for the  Knocks Outs  are already posted,  but don't panic....you have until April to get your name up.

The weather has not been kind to us  so far this year, but  thank you to all the ladies who have turned up in all weathers to play Winter League on Fridays,  come to  Tuesday  bridge and supported the social events.

FROM THE MATCH SECRETARY

A warm welcome ladies, to what I hope will be a good 2016 golf season for all.  As Match Secretary I wish to inform you that Blairgowrie Ladies have been accepted into the Perthshire Handicap League, which means an additional 7 matches have been added to our calendar. Within the league we have 4 Home Matches and 3 Away.  Information regarding the format will be on display in the Ladies Locker Room alongside the fixtures, early in February.

I wish to encourage all ladies to put their names down, irrespective of handicap as the idea of the matches is to encourage more ladies to play at venues we may not have previously visited.  Please note the Handicap League will be played in the evenings, normally between 5.30 - 6.00pm.

Fixtures for the Friendly Matches will also be displayed in early February, but this year only 5 games at a time will be posted on the board.  Over the years, players have put their names down for the whole year and when it has come to selection time, names have been scored out and I have become aware that other potential players have been discouraged from putting their names down due to the lengthy list already on display.  This method will be tried for this year to see if we can have a larger group of players representing the club.

BURNS SUPPER 22/01/2016

Members and guests enjoyed a great night of entertainment at the Burns Supper yesterday evening. Club Captain Robin Duncan led the  "The Nicht's Ongauns"  and introduced the guest speakers as we settled back to enjoy a traditional  and tasty Bill o' Fare.
Lady Captain Kathy Cameron gave a spirited Reply to the Toast to the Lassies after discovering she was replying to a last minute replacement for the original speaker who had to call off  hours before the event.  Well done, Kathy.

WINTER LEAGUE CANCELLED 15/01/2016

Shona Deans, Bronwen Godley, Mary Hope and Liz Fertacz
A covering of snow and freezing ice greeted the Winter League ladies this morning.  It was so disappointing after 31 ladies had signed up to play. Some ladies did venture out for a few holes, while others went for a walk. In the end Winter League was cancelled in favour of coffee and chat.

The Lady Captain, Kathy Cameron, was delighted with the numbers and hopes  we'll all sign up for next week.  Kathy would also like to remind  everyone that the Burns Supper takes place next Friday, January 22nd. There are only a few tickets left.  Tickets cost £20 from the catering team for a 3-course supper and great entertainment.

The ladies levy  can be paid at the Pro Shop....£5.00 for  full members and £2.00 for Wee Course Ladies.  The levy covers the entry to all ladies' competitions.

2nd Liz Fertacz 58-09 = 49

Division 2
1st Janet McKenzie 65-18 = 47

Everyone will be sad to hear that Ron Mollins passed away on Tuesday the 5th of January at Ninewells Hospital after an illness faced with dignity. A celebration of Ron's life will be held in Blairgowrie Parish Church on Wednesday, January 13, at 11 a.m, to which all friends are invited, interment thereafter private. Family flowers only, please, but donations to Ochre (oesophageal cancer charity) may be given at the church. No black ties, please. Bright clothing preferred at Ron's request.

NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS

A wonderful evening was had by all at the club on New Year's Eve. Paul and Jane provided a delicious meal and everyone danced the night away. One highlight of the evening was when Dougie Cleeton entertained everyone by singing 'Don't Stop Me Now' by Queen. A second highlight of the evening was that as the New Year was brought in, it was also Ella Allan's birthday and she was presented with a lovely bunch of flowers. See the picture below.
