The late Mrs. Aileen Kean

I am sorry to have to inform you all that after a long battle with health issues, Mrs. Aileen Kean passed away today.   We send our  heartfelt condolences to Bill and her family.   Aileen was well know to most of us and she will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Ladies Vice Captain

Following Nora Bennet stepping down from her position as Ladies Vice Captain, the Ladies Committee received one nomination.   I am pleased to inform you all that at our Committee meeting yesterday, 28th June, 2021,  Gill Tissell who was nominated by myself and seconded by Jacqui Landsburgh, has  been co-opted to the position of Ladies Vice Captain with a vote being required at our Annual Meeting for Gill to be accepted as the next Ladies Captain.    Gill is well known to most of you and is currently Secretary on our Committee and we have no hesitation in recommending her as Ladies Captain.

Here are two more pictures from the Championships yesterday.

This week's matches and pictures

Kathy Cameron won the Summer Meeting with a net 72 for the Thistle Bowl trophy.     Pauline Hill won the first round of the Millennium Trophy with 41 points and Anne Stewart was first in the first round of the Wee Course Eclectic.

Six teams each with a member from Blairgowrie, St. Rule and Turnberry played  on Thursday 24th June in the rain on Rosemount.  Here are some pictures before the rain started.  Mary Hope was Team Captain for this match.   Katie Chapman’s team with Jennifer Summers and Esther Fitzgerald were the winners with 80 points for the two best stableford scores on each hole.

We enjoyed fine weather for our Ladies Championships, resulting in Megan Ashley becoming our Champion for 2021.
Division 2 Champion was Hilary Inglis and the winner of Sophie’s Trophy was Claire Bidwell.
After play, players, caddies and referees all enjoyed a two-course meal courtesy of the Club.

Update

The  Ladies Open Tri-Am competition held on 21st June  was a very successful day for the Club and Blairgowrie are faring well in all the ladies’ friendly matches.  The Wee Course medals and competitions also continue to be well supported.

The Lyle Quaich mixed held on Sunday 20th should have been a stroke play competition but was played as a stableford along with the Ping Qualifier.  The winners of both competitions  were Denise and Rob Ginley with 46 points.    I hope they will be successful in getting to the final of the Ping competition which I believe is to be held this year at Gullane.

The winners of the Coronation Foursomes played on 22nd June  were Sheila Ritchie and Sheila Bruce.   Both have elected to play the Area Final at Banchory on 26th July.

Another round of the Annodata competition was played in the evening on Tuesday 22nd June against Dunkeld & Birnam Ladies.   It was a very close call with the match being tied 2.5 to 2.5   resulting in Megan Ashley and Gwen Lambie playing the 19th hole – Megan had a birdie to win the match for Blairgowrie.

The Ladies Championships are all up to date and the players going through to the finals on Sunday 27th June are -

Division 1 Megan Ashley v Jillian Milne - Referee Margaret Kerr

Division 2 Hilary Inglis v Gill Tissell – Referee Katie Chapman

Sophie’s Trophy – Jacqui Doig v Claire Bidwell – Referee Jacqui Landsburgh

Caddies are allowed but under Covid19 rules are not allowed to hand out clubs to the player or touch other  equipment.  There is to be a 2 course meal afterwards for players, caddies and referees, courtesy of the Club.

This afternoon, we held the ladies’ composite friendly match with teams of 6 each from St. Rule, Turnberry, Dunbracken and Blairgowrie.

New Post 15th June 2021

Sean Robertson is the person in the office looking after our competitions and I want to thank him for his expertise in sorting out a few hiccups arising from some changes to the fixtures.   These were made to take account of relaxing the various rules for Covid19.

It has been recommended by the Club that the ladies merge Divisions 2 and 3 for winners of medals and trophies -  the gents have already merged their last 2 Divisions.

Ladies should please note there are various competitions which have rules in place for acceptance of late entries and any lady entering late can win both the medal and attached trophy.   These rules were agreed at the 2017 AGM.   The Rule Book is upstairs in the ladies locker room but out of bounds meantime - if  there are any queries, the office or myself will keep you right.

I note the results of some preliminary matches for the Championships have yet to be entered online - could all ladies please note that these must be recorded.   Remember the deadline for all rounds including the semi finals have to be played by 24th June in time for Finals day on Sunday 27th June.

Changes to Fixtures – Please note the alternative day for the first round of the Millennium Trophy is on Saturday 19th  June and not Sunday 20th June  as stated because of the Lyle Mixed being played on the Sunday.

Coronation Foursomes are now to be played on 22nd June with a morning only draw.  I apologise for any confusion caused –  the Sundowner was originally scheduled for that afternoon - it was subsequently taken out of our fixtures and replaced by the Ladies Captain v Ladies Vice Captain match but the  change to the entry booking sheet was inadvertently overlooked.   This match will take now take place later on in the season once we find (hopefully) a new  Ladies Vice Captain.

To date the results for the ladies’ competitions are as follows:-

4th June – Gold Medal Winner – Gillian Wallace (Scratch 76)

Silver Medal Winner – Eileen McMurray (best nett 71 (bih)

7th June – The Club friendly match against Alyth was  drawn.

9th June – 2nd Round of the Allison Trophy winner is Meryl Ferguson (bih).

10th June – The Club friendly away match to Ladybank resulted in a defeat for our team.

11th June – Medal 3 – Division 1 Winner  Jillian Milne - net 70; Division 2 - Katie Chapman - net 70

12th June - Jubilee Plate - Heather Anderson - net 70.

I have asked the office to display the up to date position regarding our Championship rounds on the board outside the Pro Shop door.

Update

Following requests, the Ladies Committee agreed at their last meeting that the Gellatly Rosebowls doubles knock-out competition should now go ahead (but to be played in accordance with Covid19 rules with regard to not touching equipment owned by your partner).  The original draw which was done by the office is now online so please check to see who you have to challenge and the last date for playing the round – I note there are a few matches still outstanding.

The Senior Ladies Invitation Day to be held on 13th July is now available online for entries.  The format is a 4ball better ball stableford with the draw being done by the office.

The Ladies Championship preliminary rounds and semi-finals all require to be played on Rosemount by 24th June in time for the finals on 27th June.    All results require to be entered via the computer in the clubhouse or alternatively please ask the Pro Shop to do it for you.

Please note Tuesday 22nd June is the date now scheduled for the Coronation Foursomes Stableford on Rosemount – entry in pairs at £4 per couple.   Please enter for this competition online.

I have been informed that Katie Alexander won the consolation medal at the Scottish Ladies Amateur competition at Gullane last week.   Well done, Katie.

Liz Ridsdale won the Karrinyup Spoon with a brilliant best nett score of net 69.   Our congratulations, Liz.

The Wee Course Ladies latest medal was won by Anne King.
