PINEHURST - Friday 25th March

Is it still March?  Short sleeves and, for some (yes, you Fiona), shorts were the order of the day for our Pinehurst competition on Lansdowne.  Some ladies handled the format better than others, but there were clear winners - Carolyn Haddow and Sam Peck with an impressive score of 67.  Runners-up were Janice Lang and Angela Rooney with 71.

Next Friday we have the Season Opener Ladies Captain v Vice Captain 4BBB on Rosemount.  Please sign up before Wednesday 30th March.  If you wish to stay for the lunch, please book either by speaking to the bar staff, or to Nicky in the office or by emailing reservations@theblairgowriegolfclub.co.uk.  Payment of £13.50 can be made on the day.  There is no requirement to change for the lunch (unless you wish to do so).

From Monday 28th March fairway mats will no longer be required (yippee!).

Reminder: the deadline for entering the knock-out competitions is 27th March.

Due to the recent rise in Coronavirus cases, it has been decided, regretfully, to cancel the proposed Pilates session which was to have been held on Monday morning as part of the Winter Socials programme. Thanks to Mary Hope for offering to lead this and we hope to have better luck next year!

LADIES GET-TOGETHER

Thirty six ladies came together on Friday evening to look forward to the coming season.  We enjoyed a delicious meal prepared and served by our new caterers, Steven and Carolyn Gilroy, and their teams.  There was much friendly chat and some new members were introduced to the gathering.

After dinner, Gill ran through the main competitions and other events coming up and then Robin Duncan, past Club Captain, gave a short talk on the history of Blairgowrie Golf Club from the formation of the Wee Course, to the Ladies' Clubhouse and on to more recent times with the creation of the Lansdowne Course.  He introduced us to the personalities involved in the club's beginnings, many of whom have given their name to trophies or holes on the courses.  More information on the history of the Club can be found in the Secure Members' Area of the website.

Gill thanked Robin for stepping in at the last minute to replace Stuart Wilson who is isolating due to a member of his family having Covid.  Several ladies also had to miss the evening because of positive Covid tests and we wish them all well.

Earlier in the day, we enjoyed a Texas Scramble played in glorious sunshine.  The scores were very close and the results were:

Winners: Morna Bell, Marion Kay & Gill Tissell                                            Runners-up: Susan Arbuckle, Mary Hope & Sheila Ritchie

On the Wee Course, Jeannie Webster won the 3 Clubs & Putter competition and Sheila Christie was runner-up.

Here are some photos of the ladies listening attentively .......

ANNODATA GOLF CLASSIC

The Club has entered a Ladies Team in the annual Annodata Golf Classic event.  This is a National Golf Club team event, the only one now operating in the UK.  It is a match play event with eliminating rounds being played on a knockout basis with each match consisting of five singles decided by handicap match play over 18 holes.  A draw is made for each round based upon the Club's geographical location.  Clubs from different counties may be drawn to play one another from round one onwards.  The semi-final and final are this year being played at the Montecastillo Golf Resort, Cadiz, Spain.

We are looking for a 'pool' of Ladies that we can call on to represent the Club.  In each round we require a team of 5.  The only rule stipulations are that your Course handicap is a maximum of 24 and in order to play in the final you must have played in at least one of the earlier rounds.

Sue Waddell will be Captaining the team for 2022.  If you are interested, please contact Sue or sign up on the Annodata sheet in the Ladies locker room.  We anticipate that the first round will be played at the end of April / mid May.
