FRIENDLY MATCH v FORFAR - MONDAY 24 APRIL
Our second friendly match of the season took place at Forfar on Monday 24 April. Despite the wintry weather which was very varied during the afternoon and consisted of sleet, hail, wind with intermittent sun; all of our ladies coped well with the difficult playing conditions and enjoyed their afternoon. We were all very pleased to get in to the club house after the matches to warm up and enjoyed a two course meal with plenty of chat.
The result was a draw 2 / 2. Thanks to our Blairgowrie ladies, Sue Waddell (Captain), Meriel Walker, Mary Miller, Carolyn Haddow, Brenda Clough, Maggie Marshall, Anne Farquharson and Eileen Brown for playing.

ANNODATA GOLF CLUB CLASSIC
On Sunday we played in the first round of the Annodata UK Golf Club Classic at home against Inverness. Unfortunately the beautiful weather that we experienced during the week had disappeared and we were all wrapped up again in our winter golf gear and hats. One positive it didn't rain!
We were certainly up against it in most of the matches and our greens posed no challenge for our opposition. At the end of the afternoon the score the score was 2 1/2 to 2 1/2 which meant that the players in match 5 had to play sudden death. Unfortunately we were beaten on the 2nd extra hole, so are out of this years competition.
Many thanks to our team, Jacqui Landsburgh, Moira Lumby, Anne Walker, Janice Lang and Sue Waddell (Captain) for playing.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP QUALIFYING COMPETITIONS
The Club Championships are the most prestigious of the golfing year. Here is an outline of the rules:
There are four qualifying rounds for the Club Championships - two on Rosemount and two on Lansdowne, which can be played on the main competition days or the Alternate days, as per the fixture card, and are detailed below.
Friday 21 April (alternate Sunday 16 April) - Round 1 - Rosemount
Friday 28 April (alternate Sunday 23 April) - Round 2 - Lansdowne
Friday 5 May (alternate Sunday 30 April) - Round 3 - Lansdowne
Friday 12 May (alternate Sunday 7 May) - Round 4 - Rosemount
Two best gross scores qualify, one from Rosemount and one from Lansdowne. 8 players from Division 1 go into the draw for the Club Championship. Likewise, 8 players from Division 2&3 combined qualify for the Division 2 Championship. After the Championship qualifiers have been selected, the 8 players with the best nett scores from Divisions 1, 2 & 3 combined will qualify to play for Sophie's Trophy.
Once all the qualifying rounds have taken place, the draws will be made and the players advised. The Club Championship and Division 2 Championship are played as scratch knockouts, whilst Sophie's Trophy qualifiers play a handicapped knockout.
This year the knockout rounds and finals are to be played on Rosemount, with the final of all three competitions to be held on Sunday 18 June. If you wish to enter these competitions, you must be available on this date. When playing in the qualifying rounds, please let the starter know whether or not you wish to enter the Championships.
Full details of these and all Ladies Competitions can be found in the folder in the Ladies locker room.

THE COLUMBINE CUP
The Senior Gents v Ladies took place on Thursday with five groups on Rosemount and five on Lansdowne playing a 4 ball better ball match play competition.
Whilst there was some competitive golf being played, with all matches tightly contested, it was a very friendly and sociable occasion. After the match we enjoyed a delicious meal in the dining room.
Overall the result was very close, with a 5 1/2 - 4 1/2 win to the Gents and Sue is shown below presenting the Columbine Cup to Captain Colin Allison. There is always next year Elaine!
Thanks to everyone who took part.

BIRDIE TREE, PAR BAR, SUMMER RINGER.......and more
The following is an explanation of some of the summer season competitions and a reminder of how they work.
Birdie Tree
Once a player has a Gross Birdie (or better) during any SGL medal,
Stroke play or Stableford competition, she can put her name on a flag and pin
it on the first ‘nest’ on the Birdie Tree in the upstairs Ladies Locker
Room. When she has another Birdie, she progresses up to the next ‘nest’
and so on. There is a Robin trophy for the player with the most Birdies in
Division 1 and a Pheasant Trophy for the player with most Birdies in Divisions
2 & 3 combined. The office will provide birdie reports for each
competition as a means of verification.
Par Bar
In the same way as for the Birdie Tree, Gross Pars may be recorded by entering the details (name, date, hole on which Par was scored) on a card and posting it in the pocket of the Par Bar chart behind the door in the Ladies Locker Room. A trophy will be presented at the end of the season for the player with the most Pars in Divisions 2 & 3 combined. Again, the office will provide a report for verification purposes.
Summer Ringer
Similar to the Winter Ringer, cards can be submitted for the Summer Ringer for rounds played as part of a competition or during bounce games (up to a maximum of two per week) on Lansdowne. The first score recorded must be over 18 holes; thereafter at least 9 holes must be played. The player can improve the score on up to three holes on each card and the score on each hole can be improved only once after submission of the first 18 hole card. The Hilda Hendry Memorial Trophy is awarded to the player with the lowest final score less half her handicap index as at 30th September.
Summer Eclectic
The Eclectic runs on all Strokeplay and Stableford competitions on Rosemount over the summer. This is administered by the office and updates will appear on the IG software.
Competitions (including Alternate
Days)
There
will now be an entry fee of £1 payable prior to every full
section competition (50p for all Wee Course competitions). In addition,
all ladies wishing to enter the full section competition will have the chance
to enter an optional sweepstake and an optional twos which will cost £1 and 50p
respectively per competition.
On a
medal day (inclusive of Alternate Days), all ladies should check in at the PSI
system in the Foyer OR
use their Smartphone app to check in before
play. At
this point the compulsory entry fee of £1 (50p for Wee Course competitions)
will be taken and all full section competition ladies will then have the option
of entering the sweep/twos competition.
The sweep
money won will be returned to the members Clubhouse (bar) account and the twos
money won will be put on to the members Pro Shop account. Please note failure to check in before
play will mean that the player will be unable to enter their scorecard after
their round.
Full details of these and all Summer competitions
are available in the Ladies Competition Bible in the upstairs locker room.
LADIES CAPTAIN v VICE CAPTAIN
We played our season opener on Friday morning on Rosemount. It was a bit of a cold and damp start but at least the rain stayed off for the group photos and the Captain teeing off! Unfortunately the Scottish weather was true to form and we were all pretty wet and cold by the time we found our way back into the Clubhouse!
Thirty nine ladies participated in the match which was led by Ladies Captain, Sue and Vice Captain, Elaine and their playing partners, Carolyn Haddow and Susan Arbuckle. Most of the matches were pretty close with the main objective of the day to have a friendly game of golf and some fun. The final result was not so close with the Captain's team winning by 29 holes to 8. Better luck next year Elaine!!
The Greenkeepers should be commended for the way in which they presented the course given the challenges they have faced with the winter weather.
After our match, we enjoyed a drink and delicious lunch with a chance to dry out, warm up, relax and have a chat. Thanks to Tina, Greg and their teams for looking after us all.
Thanks to Alistair Batchen, our photographer for the day, who stayed out in the rain and could be seen lurking behind trees and bushes taking photos of all the playing groups! The photo slide show then played over lunch which was a lovely surprise (thanks Elaine).
Elaine and I would like to thank everyone who played and who helped get the season off to a great start.
Here are a selection of photos from the day......please click on the images to enlarge.
