Blairgowrie Ladies' Christmas Lunch

We had a beautiful day for the Ladies' Christmas Lunch. Over 70 ladies attended and had a very enjoyable time. Captain Muriel MacPherson greeted everyone and presented prizes to Liz Fertacz, Turkey Trot winner and Heather Anderson one of the runners up. Thanks go to Ian Cooke and his team for putting on such a good luncheon for us all.




Not forgetting the gents who managed a quick game and drink before escaping.

Special Note: Even though we play the Winter League every Friday, The Stanley Clarke Trophy will be played for on the second and fourth Fridays of the month.The first round of the Stanley Clarke Trophy will be on Friday 13th November.The best 3 cards  submitted will be used to determine the winner.

On the other Fridays, the ladies will play in the Blue Course Winter League Competition. Six best cards will be used.

Finally, to avoid confusion, the Ringer Book wil be left in the ladies' locker room so that it can be filled in when ladies come in after their golf.

It is hard to believe that it is that time of year already. On Friday December 11th  the Blairgowrie Ladies Christmas Luncheon will take place. All lady members are invited. (including Lansdowne and Wee Course Members) The time of arrival will be 12:00 for 12:30. Please bring a Christmas gift to the value of £5.00.  
Below is the menu available on the day.Tickets are on sale in the Dining Room and must be purchased before the 6th December. The cost is £15.00 for a three course meal including a glass of wine.

Friday October 30th Winter League Results

We had a good start to the Winter Competitions with the first Winter League and Ringer. 24 ladies played and there was some excellent scoring. Next week it will be the traditional turn up for the draw at 9:50 and the second draw at 10:15.

How to Handle Priority at the 9th Tee for the Winter League

Ladies Winter League

This competition played weekly throughout winter, takes place over the 1st the 2nd and then the 9-18th holes on the Lansdowne Blue Course.
The problem of priority at the 9th tee has been discussed by the Ladies and Gents club and the committee have agreed that the ladies and any other golfers on the course arriving at the 9th tee at the same time should have alternate rights to the tee.
Technically any golfer cutting in should allow players playing the full round priority. However it was concluded ---
a. because of the long history of the ladies winter league.
b. its relatively small field meaning only slight disruption to any other players.
-----that this compromise position would be the better solution for all playing.
We hope all players will support the initiative, and all enjoy their golf with as little interruption as possible.

Heather Anderson was a member of the Scottish Team which won the Senior Women's Home International at Newport Golf Club in Wales this week. Heather won her final day singles match beating the Senior British Champion, Vicki Thomas, by 1 hole.

Congratulations Gwen Lambie Champion of Champions

Blairgowrie member Gwen Lambie won the Champion of Champions at Gleneagles today on the PGA Course. Gwen qualified for this event having won the club championship at her other club, Dunkeld.

Heather represented Angus County and Margaret and Sandy represented Perth & Kinross County.

Ladies Past Captains Competition 25th August

The Ladies Past Captains Day took place on Tuesday August 25th. Eighteen past captains were there which was an excellent turn out. Eight played for the trophy on Rosemount donated by Muriel Rae. The winner was Sheila Christie with 36 points. Second was Mary Hope and Muriel Rae was third. Four ladies played the Wee Course. Rita Hoad was first and Catherine Patterson was second. The day managed to stay dry and an enjoyable time was had by all.

CHEQUE FROM GOLFERS TO MACMILLAN CANCER

At Blairgowrie Golf Club, Liz Fertacz, lady captain, handed over a cheque for £1030.50 to Neil Kennedy, East of Scotland fund-raising manager, Macmillan Cancer Support. The money was raised at a fashion show held at a ladies' get together in the clubhouse, with fashions from Ella Allan, of Ella's Ladies' Fashion Boutique of Dunkeld. Blairgowrie Ladies played their match against Edzell at Edzell on Monday. An enjoyable day was had by all but unfortunately Blairgowrie lost. However, we all had a lovely meal afterwards. We were so impressed with our pudding that we had to take a picture of it!

Lady Captain's Day

Lady Captain's Day was a great success and the weather did not manage to dampen any spirits. Everybody played a Pinehurst Foursomes Format which proved to be very popular. Over £200.00 was raised for Captain Liz Fertacz's charity Pancreatic Cancer.

The winning couple was Betty Bryce and Maureen Reid who scored an excellent 69.5
2nd were Heather Anderson and Margaret Paterson who scored 70.5 with the better inward half.

3rd were Sandy Bushby and Jacqui Hovde who scored 70.5

Mark Patterson Trophy Winners

The Mark Patterson Trophy was won by Norma and Alastair Fleming who scored a brilliant 45 points in the 4 ball better ball stableford competition. Mrs Patterson very kindly presented the trophy to the worthy winners.

Congratulations to Brenda Clough for a Hole In One

Well done to Brenda Clough who had a Hole in One on Friday. She scored her ace on the 9th of Lansdowne whilst playng with Rae Brass in the Friday competition. It is quite a coincidence that Rae presented the Hole in One trophy in memory of her mother Patience Hallhead.

Commonwealth Spoons Blair Atholl

Hole In One for Margaret MacNaughton

Ladies VS Senior Gentlemen

Today the annual match between the ladies and the senior gentlemen was played. The weather went from rain to sunshine to rain, but that did not manage to dampen the spirits. Above is a photo of a lovely rainbow at the 15th.

The matches were all quite close, but the senior gentlemen managed to win by 5 1/2 to 2 1/2. Liz Fertacz the Lady Captain is presenting the cup to David Shepherd.

The ladies golfing season at Blairgowrie Golf Club opened with 84 ladies participating in the Captain vs Vice Captain match. Here is everybody pictured before the start of the event.
