Saying Farewell to Ron McLaren

Today many members gathered at the club house at Blairgowrie to say farewell to Ron McLaren. He was presented with a print of the Golf Club by Club Captain Roy Sinclair. Ron will have the picture framed in a frame of his choice which is all part of the gift. Ron was a great asset to Blairgowrie and he certainly will be missed by us all.

After the presentation, Ron said a few words of thanks which had us greatly entertained-especially when he told us how he avoided kissing the Blarney Stone on his recent visit to Ireland!

Here we have Ron wishing Douglas Cleeton all the best for the future.

Ladies vs. Senior Gents Columbine Trophy

It was a perfect day for golf and the ladies and the senior gentlemen met for their annual match. Over a bacon roll lunch, the gents were sure they were going to be defeated as the ladies were all receiving an extra 4 shots on their playing handicaps. But these shots were only to even up the differing pars for the ladies and gents as the gents were playing off the yellow tees.  Unfortunately, for the ladies the results were not quite what was expected. Despite quite a few matches going to the 17th/18th holes, the ladies were defeated in every match.

Afterwards, an enjoyable meal was enjoyed by all and the ladies were not too down hearted. Ian MacPherson, the gents senior captain was gracious in victory and he is pictured above being presented the Columbine Trophy by his missus Muriel MacPerson, the Ladies' Captain. Next year, the rules will be different; the gents will play off the white tees!
