BLAIRGOWRIE LADIES' BOOK CLUB

The next book,to be discussed on Tuesday 26th November at 2.30,(after bridge and golf) is The Black House by Peter May. The Black House really ticks all the boxes for a cop-led murder mystery – a gruesome crime (two, actually), a corkscrew plot, a fabulous sense of place, and a thoroughly believable police detective trying to keep his balance as his personal life implodes and his professional one threatens to blow up in his face.

If you are a keen reader and would like to take part, then please let Jen Geddes or Sandy Bushby know.

RAIN......

Ladies, what a start to our winter golf season.   Heavy rain was forecast and heavy rain there was. No one wanted to play, so we settled for coffee and a chat. Next week there is no Draw, just  turn up in the Locker Room  and a random Draw will be made....please see the Competition Secretary's notes below.
Mats will be is use on the fairways  from Wednesday October 30. Alternatively players may drop the ball in the rough, not nearer the hole, and play the shot without the use of a mat. You can buy a mat in the Pro Shop for £2.00.

Next week  sees the start of the Winter League.  Margaret Kerr, Competition Secretary,  has  compiled this guide to  the Friday Competitions

The Ladies play three competitions in one, the Stanley Clark Trophy, Winter League and Winter Ringer every Friday morning (weather permitting) during the winter months commencing the end of October to the first week in March.  We play in 3’s for only 12 holes, the first tee-off time being 10 a.m. and play will be on Lansdowne wherever possible (or the course of the day i.e. Rosemount if Lansdowne is not available).   The greenkeepers will  advise what is the "course of the day".

To get us all started, for the first of these competitions on 25th October,  entry is  online with an official draw being done by the Club.

If you would like to join in, please come upstairs to the Ladies’ Locker Room before 9.45 a.m. on Fridays in order to be included in the draw which is done at 9.50 a.m.   If there are sufficient numbers, a second draw is made at 10 a.m.  We have a small get together afterwards with a short prizegiving of a small gift (usually donated by ladies) to the winner that day  and a golf ball to the  runner up.

• Please note for the Winter League only, if you win, then 1 is deducted from your handicap and that is your handicap for the next round.
• The Winter Ringer has its own rules in the Rule Book in the upstairs Ladies Locker Room.
• The Stanley Clark Trophy is played only on the second and fourth Fridays of the month.

Come and join us if you can – it's really good fun and nice to meet different ladies to play with.

Turn Up And Play.

Today saw the last Turn Up and Play of 2013 (where has the season gone!). A great turn out of 17 ladies played in a Flag competition on Lansdowne, organised by Avril Smith. Overhead conditions were extremely kind and the greens extremely fast! Janice Lang made it all the way to the green side bunker on the 18th (off 7/8 handicap) before planting her flag. This was the little flag that travelled farthest round the course earning Janice first prize. Well done Janice!

A big thank you to all the ladies who supported this competition and the many others who have turned up for these events (in all weathers) over the past season.

We look forward to welcoming you all and hopefully many new ladies to TUAP in 2014!

FROM THE CAPTAIN

There will be a  service of thanksgiving  for Amelia Gellatly in Blairgowrie Parish Church on Thursday, October 3 at 1 p.m., to which all family and friends are warmly invited. (Proceeded by a private family committal service at Perth Crematorium.)
