LADIES VS SENIOR GENTS

The Senior Gentlemen retain the Columbine Trophy
At last the sun shone on the first match of the season for the ladies. Their opponents were the senior gentlemen and they were all competing for the Columbine Trophy for the 23rd year. Expectations were high in this closely fought contest. Margaret Hunter, the Lady Captain led the ladies' team and kindly organised the presentation of 125th Anniversary ball markers from all the ladies to all the gents. Her husband Graeme captained the men. After an enjoyable meal provided by Paul and Jane, we waited to hear with bated breath for the announcement of the results. Margaret informed us all that it had been a closely fought event, but alas the men had won seven games to five and she then presented Graeme with the Columbine Trophy. It was a great day and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Thanks go to Graeme Hunter for hosting the day and also to Ian MacPherson for organising everything behind the scenes

CLUB CAPTAIN'S DRIVE IN

Today the men had their opening day of the season. They were a bit more
fortunate than the ladies with the weather and were able to play. After
the Captain, Alastair Drummond welcomed everyone, he was in for a
wee surprise. The Lady Captain presented him with a 125 year old penny
to commemorate the Anniversary of the club. Afterwards the Captain and
the Lady Captain made their way out to raise the Club flag. Finally The
Captain undertook the duty of hitting the first ball off the tee to officially
open the season for the men.

In the photo on the bottom right you can see a close up of the Penny.

The slideshow below gives a flavour of what went on.

LADY CAPTAIN'S DRIVE IN

Sadly April showers took centre stage today and forced the Lady Captain to make the difficult decision of cancelling the Captain Vs Vice Captain match. The ladies did manage to gather outside club house on the first tee for the the traditional opening day photograph. Once that was done, the Lady Captain Margaret Hunter hit the first ball of the season beautifully down the middle of the fairway. The spirits of the ladies were not daunted by the weather as other activities were organised for them to do do. There was bridge, carpet bowls, indoor putting and Charles had a 20% off sale on ladies clothing. What more could a girl ask for? So all was not lost as it gave everyone the chance to meet up and chat as well as participating in some entertaining activities.
