BLAIRGOWRIE v TURBERRY LADIES 22/06/2016

Blairgowrie Ladies ready for action
Lady Captain Kathy Cameron greets the Turnberry Team

Today our Lady Captain Kathy Cameron, welcomed the Turnberry Ladies team to Blairgowrie, this being the first home friendly between the teams. The Turnberry players reported they all had a good journey north and all were looking forward to playing Rosemount, as most of the team had never played the course before.

After introductions and a refreshing cup of coffee, the teams were all set, with the Blairgowrie pairs being Fiona Johnston & Janice Lang, Mary Hope & Sandy Bushby, Muirel McPherson & Margaret Hunter and Avril Smith & Suki Stobbs

The weather was good with sunshine, a light breeze, and the suspected showers coming to nothing. The match was followed by a wonderful meal in the dining room, with Fiona Johnston (Team Captain) and Sylvia Kemp, Lady Captain of Turnberry giving the vote of thanks. The result of the match was in Blairgowrie's favour with a 4-0 win.

The Turnberry ladies were extremely complimentary about the condition of the course and were fascinated with the visible wild life, all stating that they would be back to play it again. I would like to thank the Blairgowrie players for volunteering to play and for making the day an enjoyable event for our visitors.

LADIES INVITATIONAL TRIAM RESULTS

It was an early 8.00am start to the day, with the Ladies Committee welcoming  a great entry of 47 teams to our annual Ladies Tri-am, a big increase in numbers from last year.  The weather was kind most of the day to the teams, but unfortunately the skies opened about 4.00pm, with the teams playing later getting the worse of the showers.

The presentation of prizes by Lady Captain, Kathy Cameron, took
place at 8.30pm.

1st   Carnoustie 2     A. Leiper,  M Brown  & Y Heap
2nd  Forfar 1     P Ray,  F Robertson and AN Other
3rd   St Rule 1     B Brown,  R Rentoul & B Grounds

Kathy thanked all the players for their support in attending the event and thanked Ian McPherson, who collated the scores. Kathy presented Ian with his favourite tipple in appreciation of his help.

Good news for the club was the positive feedback, that the course was in excellent condition, the catering was of a high standard and the visitors appreciated the variety of SGU and M&S voucher prizes. It was great to hear a good day was had by all.  The Committee would also like to thank the volunteers who helped out on the desk.

LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY 2016

Sixty ladies turned out for Lady Captain's Day today. The weather was not kind to us as it rained constantly throughout the day, however, that did not stop a determined field of ladies keen to take part. The format was Greensomes and played on the Rosemount Course. Everyone gathered for a briefing at 9:20 followed by a 10:00 shotgun start. The ground was very wet and the conditions proved challenging. The best score was a nett 75 achieved by Heather Anderson and her partner Joan Kirkwood. Once everyone dried off, drinks were served in the bar by Angie and her team. Then everyone enjoyed a very tasty lunch provided by Jane and Paul. Captain Kathy Cameron welcomed everyone and stated how pleased she was that everybody made the effort to go out and play. Photos below show all the prize winners.

FROM THE MATCH SECRETARY

Principal Prize-winners on Finals Day were from left:

Jane Cameron (Sophie's Trophy), Jillian Milne

(Club Champion), and Kathy Cameron (Bronze Champion)

Today was an exciting date in the ladies' calender, with some new names appearing in the final lineup for the finals of all three ladies Championship trophies. The Club Championship was contested between Fiona Johnston and Jillian Milne, which proved to be a repeat of last year's final. The outcome, however, on this occasion being in Jillian's favour, who proved to be a strong winner.

The Bronze Championship was won by our Lady Captain, Kathy Cameron, who had an exciting match against Jennifer Livingstone. Finally the Sophie's Trophy was won by Jane Cameron who beat Bronwen Godley.

The weather conditions proved tricky for all players, with the greens being very fast and slick.

Thanks goes to the the referees, Janice Lang, Heather Dawson and Margaret Kerr for all their guidance on the day. After all the matches, all the players, caddies and referees enjoyed a hearty meal in the club dining-room.

The presentation of prizes was carried out by the Club Captain Robin Duncan and Club Secretary Dougie Cleeton.

Smiles all round before the matches started.
