SCOTTISH SENIOR WOMENS MATCH PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS

Scottish Golf officials  with Meriel Walker, Lady Captain, and Brian Wesencraft, Club Captain
After a week of relentless rain, the weather finally cleared for the finals of the Scottish Senior Ladies Match Play Championship played over  Rosemount today. Despite the rain the course was in immaculate condition, a  tribute to our great greenkeepers.

Blairgowrie members  were, alas,  knocked out of the Championship... but Gillian Wallace  fought her way through tough matches to reach the finals of the Nett Championship.  In a thrilling match Gillian won against Sue Holwell (Lingdale) on the 18th by 2 holes.

The Match Play Championship was won by Fiona de Vries (St Rule)  who defeated the defending champion Sheena Wood (Aberdeen) 5&4.  Heather Anderson won a  special medal for best Nett for ladies over a certain age.

We enjoyed mixed weather for our friendly Match at Edzell today.  We began in sunshine, played several holes in steady rain and finished off in pleasant, balmy conditions.  The course was in excellent condition with fast greens.
The result was a very good win  for Blairgowrie 3.5 to .5
Captain Muriel McPherson thanked the Edzell ladies for their hospitality and spirited play, all the Matches were hotly contested with putts holed  being the decisive factor.

FROM THE MATCH SECRETARY

Blairgowrie Ladies Tri-am

Sun, sun and more sun, along with Mocktails was the order of the day, yesterday on Sunday the 18th June.  Our event, which this year was an Open Competition, attracted a healthy field of 150 ladies, playing on Rosemount, which was in really good condition. There had orginally been an entry of 52 teams, but unfortunately 2 teams had to withdraw at short notice.

The Events' team, along with the Lady Captain, assisted with the registrations and the recording of the results. Ian McPherson from the Senior men's section provided his expertise in working out the hole by hole results and the overall winners.  The support of all the volunteers is greatly appreciated.

The hole winners, were awarded, £15.00 each, M&S vouchers and the Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive winners for both silver and bronze received £10.00 M&S vouchers respectfully.

The overall prize winners received SGU vouchers. 1st place Baberton £60.00 each, 2nd Blairgowrie 9, £55.00 each and 3rd Gogarburn £50.00 each.

Again I would like to thank all who assisted on the day and especially Doreen Johnston who aided me in the early days of preparing for this event.

Feedback from visitiors is that they really enjoyed their day and commented very positively about their welcome to the club, the catering and the service of the bar staff.  Well done all.

TEAM ARIZONA v BLAIRGOWRIE JUNIORS

Saturday was a special day for some of our Junior Members, including Katy Alexander, when they took part in a match, on Rosemount, against a touring team from Arizona, USA. It was a beautiful day and Rosemount was a good contrast to St. Andrew’s New Course, where the visitors had played on the previous day.  The teams took everything in their stride when they were announced on the first tee and members watching witnessed excellent drives down the fairway, disappearing into the distance.  Katy won her own match 3&2 and the Blairgowrie Team won overall  - 7 ½ to 2 ½

Well done to everyone playing, a victory in their first international match.
