FINAL ROUND OF THE SUMMER SEASON

  • Trot, Trot,Trot went the Turkey winners
Yesterday was a crisp, sunny morning and 19 ladies "trotted" out for our final round of the summer season. After, in the warmth of the clubhouse, the players joined the ladies who had played the wee course.

It was nice to hear the chatter while most enjoyed hot drinks and a light lunch. Our lucky winners of the vouchers were Katie Chapman (31 pts), Carolyn Haddow (31pts) and Mary Miller (30pts). Well done ladies. The prizes will be presented at our Xmas lunch on the 7th December

Next week sees the commencement of our Winter League so please remember mats will be required.

ATERNATIVE DAY WINTER LEAGUE

Alternative Day Winter League

Good News Ladies. The Committee have agreed that an alternative day should be available over the Winter months for those ladies who are unable to play on a Friday.  The same rules will apply to the competition as those on Fridays and they will be played on the Sunday prior to the Friday competition.

This Sunday, 28th October the tee times are 12.21 and 12.30 on Rosemount.  The times thereafter on Lansdowne will be 9.03 and 9.12 and on Rosemont 10.06 and 10.15.

It is refreshing to offer this opportunity which is another step forward to ensuring we are inclusive of all our members.

Please Enjoy.

MORNA STEVEN

It is with great sadness I inform you all, of the passing of Morna Steven yesterday. Morna was a long standing member of the Club and played in many of our friendly matches alongside all the club competitions.  She was full of fun and I always remember her having a welcoming smile when I entered the club.  Sadly Morna was in residential care during her last 2 years, suffering from the debilitating illness of dementia.  Our thoughtful wishes go to her friends and extended family.

Funeral arrangements will be posted on the notice board when known and our respect will be marked in the normal manner, although Morna was not a member recently due to her illness.

CAPTAIN'S WECOME

Good Evening Ladies
A week ago today, I was elected as your Captain and this afternoon, I performed my first duty as your Captain, which has been reported on, in relation to the 4 Club Competition.

I would like to thank all those members, both ladies and gents who have congratulated me to date. I feel honoured to have obtained their respect.  The tasks ahead for the year, I believe will vary between being enjoyable, fun, interesting and no doubt challenging at times.  However, I know I have a good team at my side and a wealth of knowledge among the Ladies' section, who I can and will call upon to help move our Section and the Club forward.

One of my major tasks will be to ensure all our ladies experience a relaxed and positive atmosphere, not only on the course, but throughout the clubhouse. Therefore, I call upon us all to consider how we can achieve this and for you all to bring forward your ideas.

It is also clear that club memberships, in general, across the country are declining. Lady and junior girl members are not increasing in great numbers and Blairgowrie is no exception to this situation, irrespective of our prestigious history. We need to ensure that visitors to our club continue to consider that, this is a club they may like to join.  A number of our newest members have done just this, with some having moved from south of the border after having played our courses on a number of occasions.  Some have a wealth of experience and knowledge which as club members we need to harness, if we are to help our club go from strength to strength.  So again, I ask us all to think about how we can attract more new ladies and girl members and ensure their experience is as positive as it can be.  As keen golfers we can all help others be attracted to our beautiful game at Blairgowrie.

Monday 22nd October sees the first meeting of your new Committe, who consists of myself, Carolyn Haddow, Mary Miller, Margaret Hunter, Jo Stewart, Margaret Kerr and Pauline Hill.  A number of members have also offered their assistance as volunteers and when the time comes, I will be calling on you, so keep these e-mails and mobiles open.  In this respect, can I ask you to ensure the Office has an up-todate contact for you.

Finally, next week is the Turkey-Trot, with vouchers being the prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, which will be presented at the Christmas lunch.  Please ensure you sign up as there is only a morning draw.

Thank you all again. In the words of Martin Luther King, "I have a Dream."  Mine is, "If I can leave my Captaincy with the same smile that I have in my Captain's photo, I will have achieved my dream.

4 CLUB COMPETITION

4 Club Competition
Friday 19th

Ladies! There's an autumnal feel to the air these days, so it's time for some fun golf. This Friday we are having  the 4  Club competition. This is always  a challenge, but it makes us  think!

We can't reach  for the Club we always use for a certain shot, because it's not in the bag'

But ....it's amazing how well we can play with limited club selection... you might be surprised what a great score you come in with.  Non counting, no pressure....
