FIRST HANDICAP MATCH OF THE SEASON

Monday evening 29th April saw the Blairgowrie ladies play Murrayshall in our first match of the new season. The match was played in beautiful sunshine as Mary Hope, captain, lead the team of Brenda Clough, Jacqui Landsburgh, Jo Stewart and Jacquie Doig to a win of 3.5-1.5.

The teams met in the East Lounge, prior to the games, as the lounge is now reserved for all our club matches. After the match both teams enjoyed refreshments, something to eat, with both captains giving their votes of thanks.  Our next match is away to King James on 20th May at 5.30pm
Well done ladies, a great start.

A GRAND FINISH MARY

She did it as her wonderful smile shows

On Sunday 28th April, Mary Miller completed her dream to run the London Marathon for a second time, in honour of a BIG birthday and to raise funds for Scottish Charity Air Ambulance.

Mary completed in 4hrs-51mins-47sec, despite suffering a late knee injury one week before the event. Mary said the atmosphere was amazing, with large sections of the crowd encouraging her throughout the later part of the day, when everyone's legs begin to ache.

It had been her intention to raise £1,000, but to date she has raised the fantastic amount of £4,500.  She is overwhelmed by the generosity of all those who have supported the Charity and her throughout the event.  Well Done.

CATERING ON FRIDAY 26th APRIL

Good evening ladies. You may have by now received an email from the Club's Management, regarding the Catering situation at the club.  However, this blog is to further inform you that there will be limited catering on Friday, the 26th April.  The kitchen staff have been awaiting upgrades in a variety of equipment for a number of weeks and the work is about to take place.

This equipment is being installed on Friday, the time and day having been stipulated by the Energy suppliers.  This, therefore means that the energy supplies to the kitchen will be turned off, resulting in only Soup and Sandwiches being available on the day.

The catering staff and the Club Management apologise in advance for any inconvenience, but I am sure all the ladies will be sympathetic of the circumstances.

BLAIRGOWRIE'S MARATHON RUNNER

For the second time in her life, Mary Miller will be travelling south, to pound the streets of London in the famous London Marathon, which takes place this Sunday, 28th April, 2019.  Mary ran 10 years ago, as part of her big birthday then, not giving away any numbers, she decided she would like to do it again, when another BIG BIRTHDAY arrived.

On this occasion Mary is running to raise funds for the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance, and has been in training since the middle of last year. Mary is well known within the Blairgowrie golfing community and is presently an active member of the Ladies Committee.

Our best wishes go with Mary and hope she enjoys her day in the big smoke, tired legs and all.  Mary would like to thank all the members from the club and the Club Management who have contributed to her fund raising, for this very much respected Charity.  Go Girl, Go and Good Luck.

FRIENDLY WITH ELIE

The ladies from Blairgowrie and Elie that made up the four teams

Rosemount was bathed in bright sunshine this Easter Monday when the Elie ladies arrived to play our friendly at 1.00pm.  The Captain of the Elie ladies team, was ex Blairgowrie member, Barbara Cuthbert.  Both teams met in the East Lounge, which provided a relaxed atmosphere, where handicaps were worked out, exchanged and menu choices made. A great venue for the teams meeting one another prior to any match.

Once group photos had been taken, Starter, Duncan, announced each group in turn onto the tee. The Blairgowrie ladies, were Fiona Johnston (c), Jacqui Landsburgh, Miriam Rooney, Eileen McMurray, Jennifer Livingstone, Caroline Dracup, Moria Stewart and Margaret McGlashan.

Out on the course the games were very relaxed and enjoyed by all, although all the ladies found the greens varied and some were quite slow.  Once back in the clubhouse it became clear that the Blairgowrie ladies had their day in the sun, with them running out winners 3.5 - 0.5.  Well done team.

Following refreshments, again in the East Lounge, the ladies were delighted with the 2 course meal served in the dining-room.  Votes of thanks were given by both captains, with Barbara extending an invitation for next year for the Blairgowrie ladies to visit Elie.

FRIDAY LUNCH-TIME TEE TIMES

Good morning ladies. I have reviewed, in consultation with the Office staff the Friday lunch-time Tee slots, following our first Medal of the season.  The aim is to avoid any lady member playing at this  time, being unduly held up on the course during the Competitions.  Following our discussions, the Tee Times listed below have been agreed.

Buffer - 12.03 - 12.21

Tee Slots - 12.30 - 13.15

Buffer 13.24

The morning and evening slots will remain the same.

It should be acknowledged that this is a time consuming exercise, as all the ladies competitions and buffers for each day require to be changed for the whole season.

I would state that due to entries having been entered already for the 19th April the tee times will remain as per last week, but players should note there is a buffer from 11.45 am in place, in the short term.

The above times will be effective from 26th April. I would also emphasise that once the change is made, we will not be able to change it again, as there are already other fixtures in place.

I welcome your understanding of the situation and hope this change benefits all.

FRIENDLY WITH FORFAR

The ladies team today

Monday 15th April, saw the commencement of our Friendly Season with a home match against Forfar Ladies. The teams faced a brisk wind which increased as the afternoon progressed and the captain for the day, Linda Rice reports that all were frozen by the time they came in.  The ladies were announced on to the 1st tee by our starter Bob, a new venture for this season.

Following the match both teams enjoyed a 2 course meal in the dining-room with Linda Rice giving the vote of thanks on behalf of Blairgowrie.  Unfortunately the result was not in our favour, with Forfar winning 3-1, although the teams enjoyed the games.

Our next match is on Monday the 22nd April at home against Elie. Please meet at 12.30 in the East Lounge.

THE COLUMBINE CUP

The Winning Team 7-3

Colin Blues presenting Fiona Johnston Lady Captain with the Columbine Cup.

The sun shone today, not only on the course, but in the hearts of the Ladies Team, who recorded their first win since 2015.  My game with Colin, Sheila Bruce and Ian Dunbar was a close affair up to the 17th hole, resulting in a win for Colin and Ian, 2-1. Throughout the match Colin proved why he plays off 6, sinking a number of birdies, the longest being on the 14th green.

However, as the results began to flow in, it became clear that the ladies had enjoyed their day in the sun, defeating the Senior Gents 7-3. Well done team and thank you for making this a great day for our section.

Following the match both teams enjoyed refreshments in the East Lounge, before sitting down to a lovely two course meal in the dining-room,

MARGARET McCRAE

It is with great sadness, I inform you that Margaret McCrae, a member of Pitlochry Golf Club and Perth and Kinross County for many years, passed away late last week. Margaret played in many of the friendly matches against Blairgowrie, alongside playing in the Scratch and Handicap leagues for many years.  She was a great character, had a wonderful sense of humour and will be sadly missed. For any members wishing to attend the funeral, the church service is at 12.30 on Tuesday 9th April, at Pitlochry, Church of Scotland
