FRIENDLY WITH CRAIL AT BLAIRGOWRIE

On Monday 27th May the Blairgowrie ladies welcomed the Crail ladies on a mixed weather afternoon which deteriorated by the 12th hole..  A mutual decision was taken to walk in as the greens started to flood.

A very friendly half match resulted, which added to the conviviality of the afternoon. A delicious two course meal was enjoyed by all and the captain for the day, Margaret Kerr thanked the Crail ladies and bar and kitchen staff.

The Blairgowrie team was Margaret Kerr (c), Kate Musgrave-Brown, Jo Stewart, Gill Tissell, Miriam Rooney, Hilary Inglis, Jacqui Doig and Mary Miller. The result was 2-2.

FRIENDLY WITH CARNOUSTIE CALEDONIA

Monday 13th May was yet another beautiful day at Blairgowrie Golf Club, with the sun shinning and temperatures rising, which can only be good for our greens and most of all our golf.

The Blairgowrie ladies team of Susan Arbuckle, Suki Stobbs, Barbara Lyburn, Jen Livingstone, Jo Stewart, Christine Ogilvie, Caroline Dracup, lead by Mary Hope, captain for the day, met to play Carnoustie Caledonia.  The match was played in good spirits and was thoroughly enjoyed by both teams.  As is custom, both teams dined in the dining room for a very tasty meal, followed by a vote of thanks by both captains.

The result was a sound win for Blairgowrie 3 - Caledonia 1.

Thank you ladies for giving your time to represent the ladies' section of the golf club.

NEWS ABOUT OUR LADIES

Katy with Kirsty Brodie on the 1st tee
The  P & K County Finals took place today at Alyth.  Katy Alexander battled her way through the field  on Saturday beating Caroline Henderson (Aberfeldy)  and Carol Muir (Craigie Hill)  to book a place in the semi finals against Megan Ashley (Strathmore).

Katy  beat Megan 7 & 5  in the morning and the scene was set for a ding done battle against Kirsty Brodie (Strathmore) in the final.  It proved to be a memorable match with both players giving their best.  It all came down to putts, and, on the day, Kirsty just had the edge over Katy and won 4 & 3.  Congratulations to both for a thrilling final played with great sportsmanship.

The winning Midland Vets Team
Blairgowrie ladies are also featuring in the Midland Vets  Matches.  On Thursday 9th May Heather Anderson played  with the Midland Vets against North Vets at Montrose. The result was a win for Midland by 5 - 2. Heather won her Match against Jill Harrison.

The next Midland Vets Match is against East Vets to be played at Glenbervie on Tuesday 14th May.  The team of 7 ladies has two Blairgowrie players, Gillian Wallace and Sally Hebdon.  Good luck to both

LADIES INVITATION DAY

Today the Ladies' Section welcomed their guests to our yearly Invitation Day and the Ladies Committee and I were pleased to see a fair few wait for the presentation of prizes in the dining room at the end of the day.  Guests came from a wide variety of clubs with some ladies travelling from as far as Aberdeen and just outside Edinburgh.

The day began with the clouds looking heavy above, but the rain was only slight and most of the 76 ladies who played stayed dry, although it remained quite cold throughout the day.  This was in great contrast to the atmosphere in the clubhouse, where smiles, laughter and a great deal of chatter was to be heard among the players.

A two course buffet was on offer, providing hot and cold options and around 60 ladies sat down in the dining room throughout the day, to enjoy the delights of Elaine and Gary's presentation.  The catering certainly received positive comments, so many thanks goes to their team and to the bar staff for ensuring the day ran smoothly.

The results were :

Scratch      -  Heather Anderson (Blair) & Linda McDonald (Ladybank) (72)

 1st H/C    - Ruth Watson (Blair) & Fran Stirk (Dunbraken)   (67)
 2nd     "    -  Jane Cameron (Blair) & Caroline Henderson (Aberfeldy)   (68)
 3rd      "    -  Lorraine Bend (Blair) & Morag Bryson (Dunkeld)              (68)
 4th      "    -  Anne Walker (Blair) & Hilary Cunningham (Dunkeld)        (70)
 5th      "    -  Hilary Inglis (Blair) &  B. Low (Alyth)                                 (71)

NTP - Silver - Millie Douglas
NTP - Bronze - Fran Stirk

NTR - Silver - Susan Ogg
NTR - Bronze - Moria Stewart

                                                  Putting - Eileen Watson

I would finally like to thank everyone for making this a great day for me, especially the ladies Committee who all took turns on the Registration desk and to Jo Stewart and Pauline Hill as co-ordinators.  Please remember that the next Invitation day is the Senior Invitation Day on Tuesday 27th August.

Linda McDonald gave a well received vote of thanks on behalf of the guests.

RESULT OF THE ANNODATA COMPETITION

On Sunday the 28th April, Blairgowrie Ladies played Panmure Barry Ladies at Carnoustie, in the second round of the Annodata Competition, due to Blairgowrie receiving a bye in the first round.

The team consisted of 5 players, Emily Aird, Fiona Johnston (c), Liz Fertacz, Jillian Milne and Heather Anderson and the games were match play, with handicap difference.  The games were played in bright sunshine, although the wind was evident and varied throughout the day.

The rules stipulated that should the initial match end in a draw, then sudden death would be played involving the 5th named player.  Our games varied, with some being very close, and the match result was 2.5-2.5.  This being the case, and with only a comfort break, Heather headed out for sudden death. There was excitement in the Blairgowrie camp, as Heather had already won her game.  However, with only a putt separating the players on the 19th hole, Blairgowrie went down 3.5-2.5.

Both teams enjoyed sandwiches and coffee in the clubhouse with votes of thanks being given by the two captains on the day.  Our best wishes go to Panmure Barry in the next round.
