New Post 31.05.21

Fiona Johnston was Team Captain for the match against Crail ladies at home on Monday 24th May.  The result  was a draw.  The ladies started out in heavy rain which only eased towards the latter part of the day.  Fiona Hill playing for Crail had an eagle on the 16th hole.   Our thanks to the team of  Fiona, Sheila Bruce, Carolyn Haddow, Jo Stewart, Sheila Ritchie, Margaret Hunter, June Dargie and Kathy Cameron.

For ladies' matches, the rule for handicaps is that the ladies take their shots from the course rating and then the full difference.  For doubles it is only  90% of the difference.

On 25th May we played the Senior Gents for the Columbine Cup.    The day was fair until thunder and lightning caused a couple of teams to come in early.    The result was 4 ½ to the gents and 3 ½ to the ladies.    I handed over the Cup to Team Captain, Scott Landsburgh.

The Ladies Texas Scramble held on the Wee Course on Wednesday 26th May was well supported with 20 ladies again starting in fairly steady rain.   The winning team was Anne Gellatly, Doreen Johnston, Carolyn Haddow and Fiona Edwards with a net score of 26.   A very good result from the  5 teams who entered.

The aggregate from the Rosemount rounds of the championship rounds for
Margaret Salver – Winner Laura Mackay (144) and Runner Up Gillian Wallace (156)

From the Spring Meeting  on 22nd May-  McQueen Salver – Winner Gillian Wallace (72) Runner Up Brenda Clough (75) and the  Honeyman Trophy – Winner Angela Rooney (75) Runner Up Lesley McPherson (76)

The draws have been made for the Championships and I am pleased to say that we have a full complement in each section.   The draws are now online with the computer up and running for the results to be entered.   The preliminary rounds and semi-finals should all be played on Rosemount by 24th June with the finals taking place on Sunday 27th June.   Good luck to everyone who managed to qualify.

In  the next round of the Annodata (formerly the Mail on Sunday), we have been drawn at home against Dunkeld and Birnam ladies which has to be played by 27th June.

You will by now all have received the email requesting nominations for Ladies Vice Captain and Ladies Captain.  All nominations require to be proposed and seconded before submission.

The match against Strathmore resulted in a win for Blairgowrie i.e. 2.5 to 1.5.   The teams of Eileen McMurray and Noreen Fordyce, Mary Hope and Ruth Watson, Barbara Lyburn and Liz Ridsdale and Jo Stewart and Gill Tissell enjoyed a lovely meal with lots of friendly chat afterwards.

Update 22nd May

The winner of the first round for the Allison Trophy held on Wednesday 19th May was Ann Henry.

On Thursday 20th May the Ladybank Ladies had their  outing to Blairgowrie – this was the return outing when Blairgowrie played at  Ladybank in 2019.  I welcomed the 33 ladies  who came and tee’d off at 1.30 p.m.  and they  say they really enjoyed their day at Blairgowrie albeit in very wet conditions.

The match against Crail Ladies  on Rosemount has been organised for Monday 24th May.

We have the Columbine Cup on Tuesday 25th May.  The ladies won the Cup in 2019 and as  last year’s match was not played, it would be good for the ladies  to retain the trophy this year.

The times for the  Wee Course Ladies Scramble on Wednesday 26th May will be drawn by the office and be posted online on Monday  24th May in the afternoon.    There is no lunch after play -  ladies  should just order their own  food if they wish.  There will be a short prizegiving once the results have been given.

P&K Handicap League Blairgowrie Ladies v Crieff ladies Mon 17th May

The first handicap league match of the season took place at Crieff Golf Club yesterday with the first match starting at 5.30pm. It had been a very wet day but fortunately the clouds cleared to give way to a pleasant dry evening. The Blairgowrie ladies team members were Sheila Bruce, Noreen Fordyce, Jacqui Landsburgh, Gill Tissell and Jo Stewart. Some of the matches were very close but Blairgowrie Ladies won the overall match by 3 games to 2. Well done and thank you to all the team members, a great start to the handicap league season.

The next match takes place on Rosemount against King James on Monday 21st June at 6.15pm.   Some ladies may be playing in the Tri-Am that day but if you are available, please sign up on the notice board in the locker room if you would like to enter.  Ladies with high as well as low handicaps are very welcome to play.

The Annodata (formerly the Mail on Sunday) competition was held at Blairgowrie against Panmure on 16th May.  The match was all square after four games but Blairgowrie won their last game and so  Blairgowrie go through to the next round.   Well done to the team who consisted of Jillian Milne, Mary Miller, Jacqui Landsburgh, Hazel Moore and Emily Aird.  A photograph of all players is attached.

The Columbine Cup (Senior Gents v Ladies) is now to be all played on Lansdowne on the 25th May.  New tee times will be intimated in the next couple of days.

Unfortunately, we are now yet allowed to play a shotgun and so the Wee Course Scramble on Wednesday 26th May will just be drawn by the office and the times will be intimated online.

It has now been agreed that the Lyle mixed knockout will proceed in June. With regard to the ladies doubles competitions which were postponed, our Committee meets on Monday 24th May when a decision will be taken for these.

Update on ladies friendly and P&K handicap league matches

A number of the matches this season have been rescheduled due to various reasons, one of them being the uncertainty of whether the matches would be going ahead in the light of changing COVID restrictions. The 2021 fixture list is available for collection but some of the rescheduled matches listed in the fixture list are incorrect as it went to press before the relevant changes were made. Some matches have been added to the fixture list.

The signing up sheet on the notice board in the ladies’ locker room is up to date and it is where you will find the correct fixture list for both friendly matches and handicap league matches. Before the beginning of the season, we agreed with the office to allow ladies to sign up online for the upcoming seasons matches, as we do with knockouts etc. Many ladies did so but it has become clear that not everyone was aware of this facility and missed out on signing up for matches. Signing up sheets have therefore been put on the notice board, as they have in the past, for everyone who wish to put their names down for any of the matches. The match convenors have the lists from the office of those who signed online. That list still stands, together with those who may add their names on the notice board and the team is picked in the usual way. As this has evidently caused some confusion, next year we will revert to the old-fashioned method of just signing up for matches on the notice board. Technology isn’t always the best way forward!

The following matches have been rescheduled or added to the fixture list in order of date:

Friendlies:

Mon 24th May Blairgowrie v Crail (Home)

Mon 12th July 12th July Blairgowrie v Dunbracken/Turnberry/Elie (Away @ Gleneagles)

Mon 19th July Blairgowrie v Edzell (Home)

Mon 30th August Blairgowrie v Panmure/Carnoustie (Away)

Mon 6th Sept Blairgowrie v Forfar (Away)

P & K Handicap league:

Mon 5th July Blairgowrie v Auchterarder (Home)

Mon 26th July Blairgowrie v Strathmore (Away)

I hope this notification makes things clearer. As not everyone reads the ladies Blog, I will ask the managing secretary, Stuart, if he will send this information out by email to all the ladies. Let’s hope next year will be less complicated and that all matches go as planned with even the possibility of a good old fashioned handshake at the end of a match! I hope many of you can play in some of the matches, they are fun, they don’t affect your handicap and ladies of any handicap are very welcome. Thank you for your patience.

First Friendly Match of the Season - Monday May 10th saw the Blairgowrie Ladies play Carnoustie Caledonia Ladies in the first match of the season. It had been a bumpy start to the season with April’s matches all postponed due to COVID restrictions.

The match took place on the pristine Championship course in benign weather conditions- no wind and just a few showers in between the cloud and sun. Compared to the recent wintry weather, it felt like Spring had finally arrived.

The team members were Sue Waddell, Sheila Bruce, Hilary Inglis, Mary Hope, Mary Miller, Heather Dawson, Gillian Wallace and Jacqui Landsburgh (Captain). Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their matches and also the meal afterwards provided by their new caterers.

The fast greens obviously suited the Blairgowrie ladies as the final result was

Blairgowrie Ladies 4, Carnoustie ladies 0.

Special mention to Mary Hope who had an Eagle on the 16th!

A great start to the season, well done!

May news

The new Fixtures booklet for 2021 is now available from the starter’s hut or the Pro Shop.   Please also ask at the Pro Shop for the 2021 bagtag discs if you do not already have one.  We have made one or two changes to the Fixtures which are noted below.   It may well be that a few more alterations will be made before the end of the season but we will let you know about these in good time.

The first of our official competitions this year was played on Friday 30th April for the first qualifying championship round and the first round of the Margaret Salver.    Congratulations to Laura Mackay for her score of a net 69 and to Gill Tissell for the best net of 78 in her Division.   We also had a few players in Division 3 but only Jacqui Doig returned a score.  A total of 47 ladies returned scores.

The Wee Course Ladies had their first medal with 16 ladies playing, the winner being Ann Malloch with 21 points.

With regard to the Championships, the last of the qualifying rounds is to be played on 21st May which gives everyone plenty of time until 25th of June to have all the preliminary ties completed (they should be played on Rosemount unless competitors agree otherwise) with the finals held on Rosemount this year on Sunday 27th June.

The knockout competitions rounds are now in full swing and the results are online if you wish to keep up to date with these.

You will all now be aware that the Ladies Committee agreed that the doubles knockout competition for the Gellatly Rosebowls should be postponed until restrictions are lifted regarding playing foursomes and    will intimate dates when the first rounds can be played.  The Coronations Foursomes scheduled for 28th May have also been postponed until later in the season.   We will play instead for the Karrinyup Spoon on that day.   Later in the season, we hope to be able to fit in the Ladies Invitation Day which was postponed from 4th May.

The first friendly match is away to Carnoustie Caledonia on 10th May.   We have a full team organised and let us hope the weather is much drier and warmer that day.

The squad has been chosen for the Annodata competition (which previously was the Mail on Sunday) with the first round being played at home against Panmure on 16th May.

On Saturday, 22nd May, instead of the Pat Robins Trophy, we have substituted the Spring Meeting. The Pat Robins Trophy will now be played on 18th June with the alternate day ladies playing for this on 13th June.

We have a friendly match at home against Crail on 24th May and of course the Senior Gents v Ladies match for the Columbine Cup is scheduled to take place on 25th May (I will let everyone know as soon as I am given  the list of senior gents) .    There are entry sheets for the friendly matches in the locker room upstairs and I would ask that all ladies who wish to play in any of the matches enter their names on these lists.

Please also note to enter your names for Wednesday 26th May when the Ladies and Wee Course Ladies play a 9-hole shotgun scramble at 10 a.m. on the Wee Course with lunch to follow.   It would be nice to have a good turnout for this fun event.

Now that we are back into the swing of things and getting used to our new handicap system, I will keep you up to date on a fairly regular basis with news, results etc.  and hopefully with some great photographs.

Ladies,

The Club has asked me to put a notice on the blog regarding the toilet beside the 9th green on Rosemount.

I am informed the toilet was vandalised at the end of last week and is unsuitable for use.   The Club is in the progress of dealing with this but it will be out of use for some  time.

Sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

Newsletter May 2021

Ladies Captain’s Newsletter – May 2021

Hopefully, you are now all enjoying your golf, albeit in very cool conditions given the time of year.

Sadly, we have said our goodbyes to Dawn Tinker and Iain McKenzie and wished them well in their new ventures.  I am sure you all know that Stuart Wilson, our Managing Secretary is at present in the US as Captain of the Walker Cup.

Now that we are actually operating the WHS, our handicaps should be slowly returning to a more realistic playing level.

The first round of our Championships on 30th April was well attended with 47 ladies entering.    The Wee Course ladies’ first medal that day had 16 ladies entering – Ann Malloch being the winner with 21 points.

The Columbine Cup (Senior Gents v Ladies) is to be played on Tuesday, 25th May and the team has been informed.  There will be a 2 course meal after play when it is hoped everyone can be accommodated in the dining room.    The dress code has been dispensed with on this occasion.

I have chosen the squad for the Annodata (the old Mail on Sunday) and the first match against Panmure at home is scheduled for 16th May.

Further changes have been made to the online fixtures as follows:

The Gellatly Rosebowls competition has been postponed until later in the season if Covid 19 restrictions have been lifted regarding playing with partners.

Saturday, 22nd May is now the Spring Meeting.

Wednesday 26th May is the Wee Course Ladies v Ladies Shotgun Scramble & Lunch (provided the dining room can accommodate everyone) –this is eligible to all ladies to enter.

On 28th May, Coronation Foursomes have been postponed until later in the season (again if Covid 19 restrictions permit) and the Karrinyup Spoon competition inserted instead.

13th June is the alternate day for the Pat Robins Trophy; The 18th of June is the actual competition day for this.

Due to Covid 19, the dates for the friendly matches have caused quite a bit of confusion – Jacqui Landsburgh, our Match Secretary is in the process of confirming the various matches and I will let everyone have firm details as soon as possible.

New rules are in place in the Clubhouse in regarding the current Covid19 restrictions and I would ask that everyone adhere to the requirement to wear masks whilst in the Clubhouse until seated and to ensure their track and trace details are registered each time they enter.   Masks require to be worn at all times when in the bag store.

I hope to see you all shortly and wish you all a good summer golfing season.

Margaret Kerr, Ladies Captain
