BLAIRGOWRIE LADIES v CRIEFF LADIES - 30TH JUNE

Despite an unfavourable weather forecast, the friendly match against Crieff Ladies was played on Rosemount in relatively good conditions.

The visitors played well and won the match 3-1.  Thanks go to the Blairgowrie team of Eileen McMurray (Captain), Ruth Watson, Linda Rice, Fiona Edwards, Anne Farquharson & Jen Geddes.

LADIES SUNDOWNER - 28TH JUNE

Hopes of playing golf on a balmy summer evening watching the sun go down were dashed after a day of constant rain.  However, the rain eased as the first group went out to play just before 5pm and stayed away to allow a very pleasant round.  We almost saw the sun at one point, then it hid behind the clouds again. Thanks go to the nine ladies - Anne Farquharson, Meriel Walker, Katie Chapman, Kathy Cameron, June Dargie, Fiona Edwards, Denise Ginley, Linda Rice and Gill Tissell - who were brave enough to face the elements.  The team with the best two out of three scores were Anne, Meriel and Gill.

FRIENDLY MATCH AT EDZELL - WEDNESDAY 22ND JUNE

It was a very warm sunny day and the atmosphere in the clubhouse matched the conditions.  The Blairgowrie team consisted of a good mix of players who had played the course before and three new members who were experiencing Edzell for the first time.

Our team order was changed, due to a replacement player being required for Edzell.  When Moira and I teed off second with our now new Thai companion and her partner, we were to witness some wonderful golf, a golf lesson in itself.  Both players were a delight to play with and, from feedback from the other groups, all really enjoyed their matches and the day.

Since the storms of 2021, the course has visibly changed with over 800 trees lost, but the greens are as tricky as ever.

Following the games, all enjoyed a great two course meal and coffee, followed by the usual votes of thanks.  From the friendships established, I would expect to see some new faces at our invitation days next year.

Thanks go to the Blairgowrie team of Moira Campsie, Brenda Clough, Linda Rice, Eileen McMurray, Anne Farquharson, Maggie Marshall and Jacqui Doig.  The result was a 3-1 win for Edzell.

AWAYDAY TO CRAIL - 23RD JUNE

Didn't we have a lovely day ......

We couldn't have picked a better day for our awayday to Crail - the sun was shining and, even if there was a bit of a breeze blowing, it wasn't bad by East Neuk standards.

We enjoyed coffee and breakfast rolls in the lounge before super-starter Don saw us off the first tee, even running down the slope to locate the odd errant ball.  Heather Dawson being unable to play was chauffeured around the course dispensing drinks and sweets before going back to the clubhouse to number-crunch the scores.  The links course presented its challenges and for those of us not used to links golf, it was a learning experience.  But the stunning views - and good company - compensated.  Afterwards, we enjoyed a two-course meal and (several) drinks 🍹before prizes were presented by Heather & Gill.

πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†πŸ†

The prize winners were:

Longest Drive: Div 1 - Mary Miller; Div 2 - Meriel Walker

Nearest the Pin: Div 1 - Margaret Hunter; Div 2 - Lorraine MacGregor

Team prize - Anne Farquharson, Jennifer Livingston & Maggie Marshall

Team Runners-up - Mary Miller, Sheila Bruce & Fiona Edwards

Individual Prize: Div 1 Winner - Heather Anderson; Runner-up - Anne Farquharson

Div 2 Winner - Maggie Marshall; Runner-up - Ruth Watson

Winner of the Gad Aboot Trophy - Maggie Marshall; Plate winner - Heather Anderson

Thanks go to Heather for masterminding the outing and supplying chocolate, to Fiona Johnston for providing bottles of water, to Margaret Hunter for taking some great photos and to Carolyn Haddow for helping with card checking.  Many thanks of course to everyone who participated with such enthusiasm.

The return journey to Blairgowrie by coach 🚌 was smooth and, fortunately, singing was kept to a minimum!

While we were at Crail, a party of Crail ladies were playing Rosemount.  By all accounts, they too had a great day and were appreciative of the welcome they received.

HANDICAP LEAGUE MATCH AT KING JAMES VI - MONDAY 20TH JUNE

Our third Handicap League match took place on Monday 20th June away at King James.  Unfortunately King James only managed to field a team of two due to illness, injury and holiday commitments.  Under the Handicap League rules, despite Blairgowrie having already won the match, the remaining two games had to be played to decide the final score.  Fiona Johnston and Hannah Pickford represented our team with one game won and one lost which gave a final result of a 4-1 win to Blairgowrie.  Sue Waddell (Captain), Anne Farquharson and Fiona Edwards enjoyed a relaxing and fun competition amongst themselves.  After a warm, sunny day, the weather was cooler in the evening and very pleasant, however with the course being to close to the river there were plenty of biting 'beasties' to avoid!  Many thanks to all the team for representing the club.

For those of you who are fans on the online Wordle game, yesterday's puzzle may have been of interest.  Sheila Bruce, feeling optimistic, entered the word 'Eagle' on Sunday morning.  The solution - see below - was a little more disappointing!

FRIENDLY MATCH V DUNBRACKEN LADIES - 14TH JUNE

After a dull and drizzly opening few holes, the weather brightened up to a warm and sunny evening for our home match against Dunbracken yesterday.  Everyone enjoyed the occasion and there were some very close matches.  However, the Dunbracken ladies were successful, winning three and a half to a half.  We all enjoyed a meal in the clubhouse afterwards, with the away team being very complimentary on the condition of the course, the catering and the company.  Thanks to our Blairgowrie ladies, Elaine Robson (Captain), Liz Fertacz, Fiona Edwards, Carolyn Haddow, Jen Geddes, Maggie Marshall, Katie Chapman and Marion Kay.

BLAIRGOWRIE LADIES AT TURNBERRY ON THURSDAY 9TH JUNE

The team from Blairgowrie (see below) enjoyed a wonderful day at Turnberry on Thursday 9th June; what a treat for us all to play there.  We had composite teams of two from Turnberry and two from Blairgowrie, with the best three Stableford scores counting.  Jacqui and Christine were in the winning team (117 points) and I am sure Christine won't mind if I say that Jacqui played a blinder!  The greens were like lightning, the rough was deep and the wind was strong but it didn't rain and we all throroughly enjoyed the experience.  The Turnberry ladies were great fun and we look forward to seeing them at Blairgowrie next year.  The afternoon was finished off with a delicious meal.

The team (l-r) Moira Campsie, Maureen Brass, Anne Farquharson, Christine Ogilvie, Jacqui Landsburgh, Meriel Walker, Marion Kay and Noreen Fordyce.

Thanks to everyone for playing.

ANNODATA GOLF CLUB CLASSIC

The second round (first round a bye) was held at Blairgowrie against Panmure Barry on Sunday 12 June.  After the torrential rain on Friday evening, the bunkers on Rosemount were out of play, despite this the course was in excellent condition.  The weather stayed fair but windy and posed no challenge for the Blairgowrie ladies who won the match 4 games to 1.  Well played and many thanks to our team, Moira Campsie, Liz Fertacz, Fiona Johnston, Mary Miller and Sue Waddell (Captain).

The Perth & Kinross Ladies County team is at Kings Golf Club, Inverness from 11th to 13th June for the North Division County Jamboree.  Two Blairgowrie members, Katy Alexander and Megan Ashley, are among the team members who are defending their title of current Scottish County Champions.  You can find out more and follow their progress on the P&K County Ladies website (https://pandklcga.blogspot.com/)

Good luck ladies!

Fiona and Denise in 9-hole challenge

Following their success in the R&A 9-hole Championships played on the Wee Course on 15th May, Fiona Edwards and Denise Ginley qualified to play in the National Finals held at Dundas Parks Golf Club on 10th June.  Whilst they were not among the winners on the day, they both enjoyed the beautiful course and the experience of playing in a Scottish Golf organised event.  They were complimentary of the organisation and the friendly atmosphere.  Here are Fiona and Denise flying the flag for Blairgowrie!

FRIENDLY MATCH AT ALYTH - MONDAY 6TH JUNE

The Blairgowrie team arrived to a warm welcome from the Lady Vice Captain.  A slight juggle of playing partners occurred, due to a late call off by one of the Alyth members.  However, as the first group was teeing off, Lynne managed to persuade a lady who was just about to play the Glenisla course to fill the gap in the last group.

The weather was exceptionally good, with sunshine all day, which led to some very good golf and close run matches.  Prior to and after the match there was a great deal of chatter and laughter in the dining room which was good to hear and is what these events are all about.  New friends were made for the future.

I would like to thank Fiona Edwards, Anne Farquharson, Ruth Watson, Katie Chapman, Sheila Ritchie, Maggie Marshall and Claire Bidwell for representing the club.  Blairgowrie came home with a 3-1 win.

COMPOSITE MATCH AT ST. RULE - Thursday 2nd June

Due to a communication error, this fixture had to be arranged hastily and thanks go to all those who made themselves available at short notice.

We enjoyed a wonderful day at St. Andrews for this composite match played on the New Course in sunny conditions.   Each of the six teams had a member from St. Rule, Blairgowrie and Turnberry with the two best stableford scores at each hole counting for the team total.  Thanks to the Blairgowrie ladies - Elaine Robson (Captain), Liz Fertacz, Fiona Edwards, Katie Chapman, Carolyn Haddow and Sheila Bruce, with congratulations to Fiona and her playing partners Chris Cordner (St. Rule) and Alexandra Brown (Turnberry) for their winning result.

This marvellous day was completed with a delicious meal in the St. Rule clubhouse.

Some of the happy players and a stunning vista of the home of golf!
