JUNIOR VAGLIANO & JACQUES LEGLISE TROPHIES

Blairgowrie Golf Club was the place to be this weekend when the Club hosted the Junior Vagliano & Jacques Leglise Trophy competitions.  We were treated to some fantastic competitive golf (so that's how it should be done!) played in a spirit of friendly rivalry.  The players and officials were highly complimentary of the course, the clubhouse facilities and the warm welcome they received from Blairgowrie Golf Club members.

Many members were involved as volunteers in various roles throughout the practice and competition days and special mention must be made of Fiona Edwards who acted as scorer for two rounds, shouldering the extremely heavy scoreboard!

Some of us were happy just to pose for photographs with the trophies!!

I was honoured, as Ladies Captain, to present the medals to both the Girls' teams and their Captains and the Junior Vagliano trophy to the winning European Captain at the closing Ceremony.

More details and videos can be found on the Club's Facebook page.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this prestigious event whether as a volunteer or spectator.

SUMMER RINGER

Apologies that the Summer Ringer book was not available today as the Locker Room is currently out of bounds for the duration of the Junior Trophy competitions.

Sean will hold on to all scorecards completed today and any Ringer scores can be entered as soon as we get access to the folder again.

PAST LADY CAPTAINS DAY - TUESDAY 23RD AUGUST

The rain was coming down fairly heavily when the Past Lady Captains were teeing off on Rosemount.  By the time the Wee Course players set off, the weather was looking more promising and all managed to finished in dry conditions.  The results were all fairly close; the Winner on the Wee Course was Margaret Kerr with 16 points and on Rosemount the Winner of the Muriel Rae Claret Jug was Meriel Walker with 35 points.

Following the games, 14 Past Captains, joined by Ladies Captain Gill and Vice-Captain Sue, enjoyed a meal in the Dining Room.

FRIENDLY MATCH AT PITLOCHRY - MONDAY 22 AUGUST

Our penultimate friendly match of the season took place at Pitlochry on Monday 22 August.  We were treated to a bacon roll and coffee before we teed off, which gave us all plenty of energy for the climb up the first 4 holes.  All of the matches were fiercely contested but unfortunately the home side won 3/1 in the main due to the opposition's skills on the undulating greens.  After the match we enjoyed an excellent two course meal in the clubhouse.  Many thanks to our team, Mary Miller, Fiona Edwards, Sue Waddell (Captain), Jacqui Landsburgh, Linda Rice, Brenda Clough, Suki Stobbs and Anne Walker for representing the club.

Our final friendly fixture will be the rearranged match against Carnoustie and Panmure which will take place on 3rd October.

LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY RESULTS

A big thank you to everyone who participated in yesterday's Lady Captain's Day.  I think we can agree that the weather gods were in our favour and the umbrellas were up for protection against the sun instead of rain!  We had 52 ladies playing in a Greensomes format on Rosemount and 16 in a team format on the Wee Course.   Afterwards we enjoyed a refreshing drink in the lounge followed by a buffet meal.  Judging by the chatter in the lounge and the dining room, a good day was had by all.

I am delighted to say that the donations to the Perth & Kinross Foodbank totalled £323 and I would like to say a huge thank you for your generosity.

The results were:

Wee Course

Ist - Allie Lyburn, Janet McKenzie & Margaret Kerr (39 points on c/b)

Nearest the Pin in Two - Margaret Kerr

Nearest the Middle - Maureen Reid

Rosemount

1st - Marion Kay & Sue Waddell (69)

2nd - Carolyn Haddow & Fiona Johnston (70 on c/b)

3rd - Gillian Wallace & Ruth Watson (70 on c/b)

16TH TEE ON ROSEMOUNT

I have received a few comments about the 16th tee being in the forward position beside the yellows on competition days and I have raised this with the Managing Secretary.

It appears that the reason for it being moved forward was to speed up the pace of play.  However, I have let it be known that we should be teeing off from the back tee during medals and other qualifying competitions.

Just to give you fair warning, it will be in the forward position for Lady Captain's Day as this is a fun, non-counting competition!

LADY CAPTAIN'S DAY - REMINDER

Just a reminder that Lady Captain's Day is just a week away.  Please book online for either the Rosemount or Wee Course competition.  Both competitions will be drawn on Wednesday morning.

Note the Wee Course will have a rolling start, not a shotgun as previously advised.

If you wish to come to the Buffet Lunch after the game, please book by no later than lunchtime on Tuesday 9th August to avoid disappointment.  Bookings can be made at the bar, or by calling Nicky in the office (01250 872622 option 2) or emailing reservations@theblairgowriegolfclub.co.uk.

Finally, keep your fingers crossed for good weather!

HANDICAP LEAGUE MATCH AT AUCHTERARDER - MONDAY 1ST AUGUST

Our fourth and final Handicap League match took place on Monday 1st August away at Auchterarder.  The evening started off warm and dry but soon deteriorated into heavy rain which was disappointing given it had been such a lovely day.  Many thanks to our team Sue Waddell (Captain), Eileen McMurray, Anne Farquharson, Gill Tissell and Fiona Edwards for continuing to play their matches to the end in the rain and representing the club.  Unfortunately the result was a loss of 4-1.  Overall this season we have won 2 and lost 2 matches.  Thank you to everyone that has represented the club this Handicap League season.

The team before the rain started!
