WEE COURSE TEXAS SCRAMBLE - WEDNESDAY 24 MAY

Twenty one ladies played in the Wee Course Texas Scramble today in warm, sunny conditions. The Ladies Committee was somewhat depleted due to prior commitments, however it was great to see some ladies who do not often play in the regular wee course competitions and of course the wee course regulars!

Everyone appeared to enjoy their day, there was some good golf and a lot of fun. The winners (I am embarrassed to say) was myself, Jean Laburn and Kay Thomson with a score of 27. Runners up with a score of 28 were Linda Clark, Morag Johnston, Maureen Reid and Heather Welsh.

After our game the ladies enjoyed an informal lunch in the dining room which rounded off a very sociable day. Thanks to the green keeping staff who presented a fantastic course, the greens were superb - certainly proved no obstacle, as the winning team single putted the majority of the greens! Thanks also to Sean in the office for organising and inputting all of the score cards and to Greg and his team for keeping us fed and watered.

FRIENDLY MATCH V CRAIL - MONDAY 22 MAY

A great day of good golf today at sunny Blairgowrie. The course was looking lovely and there were many compliments from the visiting team. A 2.5-1.5 victory for Blairgowrie made it an even better day. Tina and her team produced a tasty spread so all in all a very enjoyable day.

Many thanks to Mary Miller for being Captain today and for her match report.

Well done ladies and thanks to the team Mary Miller (Captain), Maggie Marshall, Carolyn Haddow, Brenda Clough, Anne Walker, Ruth Watson, Anne Farquharson and Jacquie Doig for representing the club.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP DRAWS

Now that the four qualifying rounds have been concluded, the draws for the Ladies Club Championship, Division 2 Championship and Sophie's Trophy have been made and are now available on intelligentgolf.

Congratulations to all those who qualified this year and good luck!

I would like to add that it was disappointing that so many ladies have said that they were unavailable for the match play competitions. Unfortunately, this has resulted in only two ladies qualifying for the Sophie's Trophy this year. As such in accordance with the current rules, there will only be a final in this competition.

After the competitions are completed it is my intention to have the ladies committee review how many Championship competitions there are. This may result in recommendations to change the format of future competitions to be made at the next ladies AGM.

FRIENDLY MATCH v CARNOUSTIE - MONDAY 8 MAY

The team ready to play!

In the morning, the rain was hammering down in Carnoustie and Blairgowrie and the two team captains did consider cancelling the match on the Carnoustie Championship course. However, the weather forecast said the rain would lessen by the afternoon so the decision was made to play!

We arrived at Carnoustie in rather damp conditions, however by the time we had enjoyed a coffee, bacon roll and some chat the rain had stopped for our first tee time at 12.30. That didn't last long and the waterproofs went on and the umbrellas up as the rain started hammering down again!

Despite, at times, the very wet weather conditions and a five hour round, all the ladies had a very enjoyable day. The greens were absolutely superb, as was the standard of the rest of the course. Thankfully, the weather hasn't been warm enough for there to be much growth of the rough!

There was however plenty of water hazards and challenging bunkers. Here is Elaine in the Spectacles bunkers on the 14th....she said "this is impossible I am coming out backwards" to which I replied "come on you have to give it a try to get out forwards and enjoy the experience!".....we were both amazed when she got out first go. The lessons from Neil have paid off Elaine!!

All the matches were keenly contested and resulted in a win of 2 ½ to 1 ½ for Blairgowrie. After the match we enjoyed a two course meal in the Caledonia Club house. Thanks to Sue Waddell (Captain), Elaine Robson, Moira Campsie, Fiona Edwards, Fiona Johnston, Gill Tissell, Liz Fertacz and Sheila Bruce for representing the club.

Here are a couple of photos of the course....

HANDICAP LEAGUE MATCH v CRIEFF - SUNDAY 7 MAY

We played our first handicap league match of the year on Sunday, 7th May. The weather was kind to us with no rain, very little breeze and the temperature was even warm enough for some of us to have removed the jumper! Despite having the home advantage, we unfortunately lost 4 of the 5 matches to an impressive Crieff side. My grateful thanks to the Blairgowrie ladies who gave up the opportunity of “Coronation celebrations” to represent the Club. Thank you to the Greens Staff for presenting the course in good playing conditions. The next Handicap League match is at home to King James on Monday, 26th June. The team was represented by Hannah Hislop, Anne Farquharson, Gill Tissell, Angela Rooney and Fiona Edwards.
