FRIENDLY MATCH v STRATHMORE - 28th May

We received a very warm welcome this afternoon at Strathmore, and whilst the early bright weather did give way to a little rain, this did not spoil a very enjoyable match.  The course was in excellent condition, and we all enjoyed a delicious meal afterwards.

All matches were very closely contested, and the result was a very equitable 2-2 draw.

Many thanks to Mary Hope, Fiona Edwards, Maggie Marshall, Sheila Bruce, Angela Rooney, Eileen McMurray and Mari Brown for joining myself, as team captain, and representing the club.

(apologies to the two later groups for not obtaining any photographs!!)

KYOCERA GOLF CLUB CLASSIC

On Monday 27 May we played our second round match at home against Forfar in the Kyocera/Annodata Golf Club Classic.  The individual matches were all very close however, despite some fine play and a tremendous fighting spirit, the visiting ladies were successful; the final result was 4/1 in their favour.

Afterwards we enjoyed delicious soup and sandwiches in the clubhouse.

Many thanks to Mary Miller, Anne Walker, Maggie Marshall, Pauline Hill and Cara Davidson for representing the Club, and to everyone that volunteered for this match or to be part of the squad - there's always next year!!

FRIENDLY COMPOSITE MATCH WITH TURNBERRY & ST RULE - 23rd May

It is not often you get the opportunity to play a round of golf on the Ailsa course at Turnberry and our team of Pauline Hill, Cara Davidson, Anne Farquharson, Maggie Marshall, Gill Tissell and Sheila Bruce made an early start, arriving at Turnberry in plenty of time for a 12 noon first tee time.  A very warm welcome into the stunning clubhouse was received by all.

The forecast was not great however, to see the conditions for real, was something else - 40mph winds, horizontal rain, limited visability and puddles everywhere were not the ideal conditions for golf, with not even the best waterproof shoes and golf bags able to keep the rain out - everything was completely drenched!!

The format was teams of three, one from each club, with stableford scoring in place for the day due to the horrendous weather.  Of the six teams that started out, and being unaware that the ladies behind them were dropping out in various places, only Pauline and Fiona Steele (St Rule) completed the full course (Turnberry captain Maureen abandoned them after 13 holes).  One lady played 8 holes, one team managed 15, with the others sheltering after 9 in the halfway house.

Pauline and Fiona were rewarded for their endurance with a beautiful golf ball and marker and the members of the winning team over 9 holes, which included Anne Farquharson, were presented with a lovely Turnberry tee and marker bag.

After golf the ladies had the pleasure of chatting to snooker legend John Parrott who was very complimentary about a previous visit to Blairgowrie.

The day was rounded off with a beautiful meal in the champions room before the teams headed home to dry out.  If anyone finds they have an extra pair of waterproof trousers can they please return them, once dried, to Anne!!

Thank you to Cara, Anne, Maggie, Gill and Sheila for representing the club, and to Pauline for captaining, and providing the match report and photos.

FRIENDLY MATCH v CRAIL - 20th May

Our ladies thoroughly enjoyed the match against Crail on the stunning Balcomie Links course on Monday 20 May. The weather was fantastic with clear blue skies, minimal wind, which is very unusual for Crail, and it was even warm enough to play without our jumpers!

After the match the teams enjoyed a tasty two course meal in the Clubhouse.  All of the four matches were keenly contested, however local knowledge prevailed and the home team secured a win of 3/1.  Well done to Liz and Linda for winning their match.  Thank you to Sue Waddell (team captain), Fiona Edwards, Fiona Johnston, Carolyn Haddow, Anne Walker, Sheila Bruce, Liz Fertacz and Linda Rice for representing the Club, and to Sue for the match report and photos.

HANDICAP LEAGUE MATCH v CRIEFF - 19th May

The first Handicap League fixture of the season took place at Crieff on a dry and pleasant afternoon.  The course was in excellent condition so all the elements were in place for a good contest.  The home team was in fine form and unfortunately defeated our ladies in every match.  However, the Blairgowrie ladies enjoyed playing the course and there was a friendly atmosphere over drinks following the match.

Thanks to the Blairgowrie team of Angela Rooney, Fiona Johnston, Heather Dawson, Gill Tissell (team captain) and Marion Kay.

FRIENDLY MATCH v CARNOUSTIE CALEDONIA - 29th April

We hosted the ladies from Carnoustie Caledonia for our third friendly match of the summer season.  Unfortunately, the rain which started early in the day did not relent and the waterproofs were donned and brollies were up from the start.  Despite the weather, the course was in good condition and this was commented upon by our visitors; grateful thanks to our hardworking greenkeeping staff.

Although our team put up a brave challenge, we were unable to match the visiting ladies who were victorious in all 4 matches - congratulations to them.  Despite the loss and the rain, we all enjoyed a good blether on and off the course, followed by a delicious 2 course meal which was much appreciated. Thank you to Tina and the team.

My sincere thanks to Morna Bell, Fiona Edwards, Anne Farquharson (team captain) Denise Ginley, Fiona Johnston, Marion Kay, Mary Miller and Meriel Walker for representing the Club.

Many congratulations to Liz Fertacz who achieved her very first hole in one on the 6th on Rosemount, playing in SGL Medal 2, the first qualifying round of the Club Championships and the first round of the Margaret Salver!!  Her playing partners were Mary Hope and Brenda Clough.  I later presented Liz with the Patience Trophy.
