HANDICAP LEAGUE MATCH v PERTH LADIES - 22nd July

We played our third handicap league match of the year on Monday and although rain was forecast from early evening it did not materialise until after 10pm.  The weather, unlike that in the Open at Troon, was fair with no wind and warm enough for everyone to put their jumpers in their bags!!

Overall the handicaps were fairly well balanced with our ladies giving shots in each of the matches.  With the course beautifully presented and the lovely evening it was perfect for some good golf and fortunately we did not disappoint.  The Blairgowrie ladies took full advantage of playing on their home course (due to the pep talk from the captain perhaps?), bringing home our first handicap league win of the season with a score of 3&1/2 to 1&1/2.  We later learned that Perth had won all three of their other matches!!

Both teams enjoyed the banter in the clubhouse afterwards over a cuppa and biscuits. My grateful thanks to the Blairgowrie ladies who gave up their time to represent the Club; Morna Bell, Anne Farquharson (team captain), Maggie Marshall, Elaine Robson and Gill Tissell.

Anne Farquharson,

Handicap League Secretary

ALLISON TROPHY FINAL RESULTS - 17th July

The third and final round of the Allison Trophy was played today on the Wee Course in warm and sunny conditions.  It was a pleasure to join the participants for lunch and a friendly chat in the clubhouse afterwards and to congratulate the winner, Heather Welsh, with a (best nett two out of three scores) result of 65 and runner-up Jean Laburn (69).

FRIENDLY COMPOSITE MATCH WITH ST RULE & DUNBRACKEN - 8th July

We met at the Links Clubhouse St. Andrews for pre-match coffees and were warmly welcomed by our hosts from St. Rule and the team from Dunbracken.  The sun was shining and there was only a slight breeze - most unusually for St. Andrews - when we set out on the New Course in teams of three.  The format was a friendly Stableford with one score counting on each hole.  The course was in excellent condition but those unlucky enough to find the long rough or the tricky pot bunkers found plenty of challenges.  The good weather remained for the completion of our rounds.

After the match we repaired to the comfortable St Rule Clubhouse where we enjoyed a delicious cold buffet lunch.  No one was in a hurry to leave the pleasant surroundings and the friendly atmosphere.  The scores for all six teams were very close but the winners were Alison Niven (St. Rule), Jane Black (Dunbracken) and Fiona Edwards (Blairgowrie) who all received a small memento. Next year Blairgowrie will be the hosts for this fixture.

Thanks to the Blairgowrie team members: Fiona Edwards, Anne Farquharson, Fiona Johnston, Maggie Marshall, Anne Walker and Gill Tissell (team captain) and to Anne, Maggie and Fiona for the photos.

LADIES SUNDOWNER - 2nd July

In a change of format this year ladies were able to enjoy a delicious afternoon tea, produced by Tina, accompanied by a glass of afternoon fizz before play.

We had a full turnout for the Sundowner competition, with nine teams heading out on Rosemount, with the best 2 scores in each team of 3 to count, played over 12 holes.  For once we set off in fine weather, and fortunately the rain that did arrive gave way to a very pleasant evening after a few holes.

The results on intelligentgolf reflect a net par for the six holes not played; the net scores for the holes actually played were as follows:

1st: Brenda Clough, Bronwen Godley & Morna Bell - 93
2nd: Carolyn Haddow, Pauline Hill & Anne Walker - 94
3rd: Katie Chapman, Denise Ginley & Fiona Edwards - 97
4th: Angela Rooney, Heather Dawson & Teresa Lynch - 102
5th: Aileen Priestly, Eileen McMurray & Gill Tissell - 102
6th: Aileen Anderson, Janice Lang & Elaine Robson - 103
7th: Mary Miller, Anne Farquharson & secret replacement - 103
8th: Elaine Smith, Cara Davidson & Sandra Kinloch - 105
9th: Erica Espley, Kathy Cameron & Marion Kay - 106

Congratulations to the winners and runners-up.

Many thanks to all ladies that came along, to Dave for setting us off in a timely fashion (and assisting with spotting some errant tee shots... ie mine!!), Tina and her team for the lovely afternoon tea and to Denise and Pauline for the photos.

FRIENDLY MATCH v ST RULE - 1st July

It was a pleasure, as always, to travel to St Andrews to play on the Eden Course.  After receiving a warm welcome in the clubhouse we headed out in dry and sunny conditions which, after a few holes, reverted to wintery rain and winds!! Fortunately this did not last, and we were able to play out under blue skies, before meeting up for a delicious afternoon tea in the splendid St Rule clubhouse.

All matches were very keenly contested, however our hosts were able to take home advantage, winning 3-1.

My thanks to Maggie Marshall, Marion Kay, Sheila Bruce, Heather Dawson, Eileen McMurray, Gill Tissell and Pauline Hill for joining myself (team captain) to represent the club.

some serious practice beforehand
