NEWS FROM AMERICA

Just received an email from Emily Aird - and it sounds as if
she is having a  great time!
"The Jets ( my University golf team)  have gotten off to a good start this fall, we finished third in our first tournament in Pueblo, Colorado where I manage to contribute two  77’s and secured a top ten finish for myself.  Our second tournament was in San Angelo Texas and we finished runner up, losing out to St. Edwards College by two strokes, I had a really good first round of 74 but not such a good second - 81.  But following these two performances we are now ranked third in the nation.

I’m having a great time here in Kansas, the heat took some getting used to but we did have our first storm (since I’ve been here) the other day and it was quite spectacular -  the thunder was so intense our entire room shook with the force of it! The rain made me feel very at home though. Everybody here is very nice and the other girls on the team are great and we get along really well, they’ve made the road trips very entertaining - which is always nice considering we had two eight hour drives for our first two tournaments, fortunately the remaining two in the fall are shorter journeys but they are not until October and I will be sure to let you know how I get on."

UPDATE: Senior Women's British Open Championship

Just heard from Heather Anderson that the second round of the  Senior Women's British Open Championship at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Ireland has been abandoned after a  lengthy suspension of play due to rain and  high winds,  howling over the course at 50mph, making play impossible.
The Championship has been reduced  from three rounds to two, so the 36-hole cut has been scrapped and everyone will play a second and final round tomorrow.
FINAL RESULTS : Wind and rain again battered the players on the final round with nobody breaking 80! Heather finished in 63rd position  - and will be glad to get home!

UPDATE : Senior Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship

The Senior Ladies' British Open Amateur Championship is taking place over Royal Portrush in Ireland this week, with  Heather Anderson again  flying the flag for Blairgowrie. Conditions today were brutal  - rain, wind, freezing conditions  and a long course made  scoring difficult, resulting in a CSS of 79, reduction only. Heather  came in with an 89, but with only 10 scores under 80,   she feels she  has a chance of making the cut. We wish her well....

STOP PRESS.....

Heather Anderson shot an 83 yesterday (11th September)  in the  first round of the  Irish Senior Women's Stroke Play Championship  at Castlerock, played in appalling conditions.  Rain and gale-force winds  battered the players, resulting  in only 3 players breaking 80 and the  CSS going up to 78, reductions only!
The second round was played today  in equally dire conditions.   Heather  sent a text to say she shot 85, to finish in 10th place, despite having a 9 on her card.  The top 50 go through to the final round, so we wish Heather all the best.  Results tomorrow.

EMILY IN THE USA

Emily is  3rd from the right
Some ladies have said they are having a problem with the link to the news of Emily Aird in the USA, so here it is.
Emily has made a solid start for Newman University, Kansas  in her first competitive appearance on the US women's college golf circuit, the Rocky Mountains Athletic Championship No 1 Competition at Desert Hawk Golf Club, Pueblo, Colorado.
Emily shot a pair of 77s for a total of 154, finished joint 10th overall in a field of 53. She was the second highest finisher of the five Newman University players. Emily's performance helped her college to finish third in a field of 15 teams. She is already seeing a fair bit of America. Her next event will take her to the state of  Texas.
