FROM THE MATCH SECRETARY

Crail v. Blairgowrie Ladies 30th May

Captain for the day, Heather Dawnson reports that both teams had a great day at Crail.  The weather was super with sunshine and a gentle breeze.  The teams were serenaded by the seals, as the players played the first few holes.  The sea was so calm the seals could be heard clearly while sitting on the rocks.

The match was followed by a great meal, with the Crail ladies being very welcoming.  The score was 3 wins to Blairgowrie and 1 to Crail.  Well done team, of Heather Dawson and Pauline Hill, Mary Miller and Miriam Rooney, Margaret Hunter and Bronwen Godley and Hilary Inglis and Judith Clowe.

Scratch League Pitlochry v. Blairgowrie Ladies

As like Crail, Pitlochry was bathed in sunshine from the beginning to the end of all the matches which started at 6.00pm.  Heather Anderson, captain, again lead a spirited team of Jillian Milne, Susan Arbuckle, Moira Lumby and Fiona Johnston.  The course was in good condition, with the rough being rough compared to the Blairgowrie courses. Again like most Scratch League matches the games were very close, with some going to the last green and last putt.  The spoils eventually going in Pitlochry's favour 3-2.

Following the matches, the teams enjoyed soup and sandwiches with chips, with both captains giving their vote of thanks.

BLAIRGOWRIE LADIES' SCRATCH LEAGUE

To date, our Blairgowrie Ladies team has competed in two matches. The first, away to Alyth on the 16th May and yesterday 23rd May at home to Muckhart. The selection of team members has proved something of a headache for team Captain Heather Anderson, due to a number of first team scratch players not being available, because of family commitments or personal injury.

Heather, however, has been able to call on two worthy subs, Liz Fertacz and Fiona Johnston, who have responded, at short notice, to the call of duty to play in both games. The match at Alyth was played in warm sunshine with the course being in good condition and scores being close, resulting in the spoils being shared 2.5 to 2.5.

The Muckhart match, played on Lansdowne, proved to be a harder task for Blairgowrie, with Muckhart's first three named players all being first team County players. The overall result went in favour of Muckhart, 3-2. Heather, however, was not disappointed, as her super subs, for two weeks in a row put scores on the table. Following the match a tasty meal was had in the clubhouse, with votes of thanks being given by both captains.

Heather would like to thank the players who volunteer for these matches and would encourage others to put their names down for future matches  The team's next match is away to Pitlochry on 30th May.

TURN UP & PLAY LANSDOWNE 24TH MAY

A keen band of 12 ladies signed up today for a competition organised by Carolyn Haddow. An intermittent drizzle didn't spoil our fun. The format was a Norwegian Stableford, new to us all. One shot on each hole had to be a free throw. This lead to great hilarity as most of us realised how poor our throwing skills were but it was comforting to know that bunkers and deep rough held no fear today!

Congratulations go to the winners who managed some great scores.

1st - Kathy Cameron (49 points)

2nd - Sheila Bruce (47 points)

3rd - Julie Wink and Jen Geddes (46 points)

Blairgowrie Ladies v. Crieff

 Monday 16th May 2016

Another home match played in great sunshine, with the course improving on a daily basis. Heather Dawson (Team Captain) lead the spirited team of Muirel Rae, Mary Hope, Ann Henry, Doreen Johnston, Fiona Doig, Anne Spence and Aileen Kean. Most games were close, with a few ending on the 18th green, with a single putt making the difference.  The overall result was 3 to 1 in favour to Crieff.  All enjoyed a meal after the match with Heather giving the vote of thanks to the welcomed guests.

Thanks to everyone for volunteering to play and remember there are still a number of games to come over the summer.

BLAIRGOWRIE LADIES V. AUCHTERARDER

Today our first home friendly match, against Auchterarder, was played in warm sunshine, which still left smiles on the faces of all the players irrespective of what the result was.  Janice Lang (Captain) lead the team of Avril Smith, Moria Begbie, Jo Stewart, Diane Wallace, Ruth Watson, Ella Allen and Linda Rice.  The games were all played in good spirit with the result ending in Auchterarder's favour 3.5 to .5.

Following the game the ladies enjoyed a meal in the dinning room which was reported to have been excellent, with Janice giving the vote of thanks to our guests.

The next group of matches beginning with the 30th May are now up on the noticeboard. Please put your names up at your earliest convenience and remember it is all about the playing and not just winning.  I have been very pleased with the responses this year so far, but more names are always welcome and needed, especially in light of everyone's forthcoming busy summer.  So a big thank you to all  you ladies in advance.
