PRESENTATION OF CHEQUE TO SCAA
I had the greatest pleasure earlier this week presenting a cheque to SCAA chair Mike Beale for £880 from the proceeds from the Christmas Hamper Raffle and confectionery sales. Mike illustrated the importance of our donation by outlining some of the situations the SCAA team have dealt with and how these funds have such an impact on their ability to respond and save lives - heartwarming and very humbling. Thank you again for your generosity and support.

LADIES CHRISTMAS LUNCH – Friday 8th December
I was delighted to welcome fifty-seven ladies to our Christmas Lunch on Friday - we all enjoyed a delicious meal with much laughter and festive cheer. I am very grateful to the hospitality team for attending to us so well: Tina, Colin, Clayton, Jayvin, & Innes in the kitchen; Greg & Dylan behind the bar; and our servers Carrie, Danni, Ryley & Lucy. My thanks are also due to Sean & Nicky in the office for printing my promotional posters and menus.
During lunch we scratched our heads over a cryptic quiz prepared by Heather, revived our musical memories with questions prepared by Anne and answered Christmas Queries set by Pauline. Shirley Irvine found herself in the lucky seat before we learnt some fun facts about the Committee combined with a Fact or Fiction elimination game.
Many thanks to Anne for making her delicious confectionery, and to Marion Kay for making up the bags so beautifully – I am delighted to say that from proceeds of the sale of confectionery, raffle tickets and additional cash donations, we have raised £880 for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance.
I am extremely grateful for your support and generosity.
The draw for the hampers was made after lunch, with Ruth Watson winning the main prize, John McMahon and George Pople the smaller hampers, and Heather Welsh and Jean Laburn taking the bottles and champagne truffles home. Huge thanks to everyone that contributed by donating wicker hampers and items to fill them with, to everyone that purchased tickets and to the bar team that sold so many for me.
Finally, a big thank you to my Vice Captain Maggie together with all the Committee members who worked hard to make the day a success and to everyone for coming along and joining in the fun.
We still have more golf to play before Christmas, but I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Festive Season and I look forward to seeing you on the course or in the clubhouse soon.
Thank you Maggie for taking the photographs - click on an image to enlarge

WINTER LEAGUE FRIENDLY - CANCELLED
We were due to play our second match in the Winter Friendly League at home today however, due to the courses being saturated following the persistent rain we have experienced, this will be rescheduled. The new date will be advised, and posted on the notice board for sign-up, as soon as it can be arranged.
WINTER COMPETITIONS 2023/24
As detailed in the communication
from the Club issued on 28 September the Ladies Winter Competitions will start
this week. The Winter Eclectic
and Winter Ringer, played over Rosemount and Lansdowne respectively, will run
from 1 November 2023 until 31 March 2024.
The first round of the Winter League (which
is played over both courses) will be on Rosemount on Friday 3 November; the first
round of the Stanley Clark Trophy (played on Lansdowne every 2nd & 4th
Friday)
will take place on 10 November.
We would encourage all ladies to enter and play in our weekly winter competitions. They are fun and are a great way to meet up with old friends, make new friendships, and a good opportunity for ladies to socialise following their game.
The key points to note are as follows:
- Competitions will continue to be played over 12 holes (1-12 on Rosemount, 1,2, 9-18 on Lansdowne), adopting the same stableford format that was introduced in 2022 following the changes to the World Handicap System.
- They will be set up as 18-hole competitions and any hole not included in the competition, or is closed, should be given a gross score that results in a nett par (2 points).
- The bible sheets have been reviewed and copies placed on the notice board in the ladies’ locker room, together with a “gross score ready reckoner” to aid completion of scorecards if required. The Winter Ringer folder will be available in the locker room from 1 November.
- Playing handicaps will be calculated as 95% Course Handicap; all winter competitions are non-counting for handicap purposes.
- Competition times will be mornings only, commencing at 9.30am on Friday for the main competition, with an alternate day the prior Sunday.
- There will be a weekly prize (a golf ball) presented to the winners of both Division 1 and Division 2&3 combined.
- Additional cards may be submitted for the Eclectic at any time as long as they are signed by another playing partner; the Pro Shop must be advised prior to play so that a competition for that day can be set up (to enable your scores to be input).
- The only competition needing your manual input will be the Winter Ringer (should you wish to enter it). Ringer cards on competition days should be placed in the box at the PSI terminal; additional cards should be placed in the box in the Locker Room following play.
The
Wee Course Ladies Winter League will also commence on Friday 3 November,
together with their Winter Ringer. The
office will complete a draw on the preceding Wednesday and any ladies wishing
to turn up and play on the day should register at the Pro Shop by 9:45 and they
will be fitted in to the existing draw.
Please remember .....
........ fairway mats will come into use on all courses from Thursday 2 November, and must be used on the fairway and the first cut of rough.
Friday 27 October 2023
TURKEY TROT RESCHEDULED
As the Winter League is a 12-hole competition, the Turkey Trot will be played over holes 1–12 only, with players receiving 2 stableford points for each of the remaining holes.
The
online booking has been amended to reflect this; you only need to sign up once and
complete one scorecard to enter both competitions. The Turkey Trot has an entry fee of £2 per
player, however should you wish to opt out and play only in the Winter League
please advise the Starter before you start your round.
Please
remember to bring your winter mat….and keep your fingers crossed for better
weather.
Thursday 19 October 2023
TURKEY TROT - Friday 27th October 2023
Booking is now open for this year's Turkey Trot. This is an individual, non-counting stableford competition to be played over Rosemount (morning only draw), with an entry fee of £2 per player. Prizes will be awarded to the winner and runner-up in each of Division 1 and Divisions 2&3 combined.
The prize-winning vouchers will be presented at the Ladies Christmas lunch on Friday 8th December.
LADIES COMPETITIONS CANCELLED - Friday 20th October 2023
Due to Storm Babet and the projected weather forecast going into Friday, the decision has been taken to cancel the Ladies Pinehurst competition and the Wee Course Ladies golf scheduled for Friday 20th October 2023.

WINTER LEAGUE FRIENDLY v ST MICHAELS – Sunday 15th October 2023
Our first Winter League match of the season was at home against St Michaels on a very pleasant October day. The course was in great condition, all the more impressive considering the flooding the previous weekend. All the matches were keenly contested but, in the end, local advantage prevailed and the match was won by Blairgowrie 2.5 to 0.5. The atmosphere throughout was very friendly and there was plenty of chatter over soup and sandwiches. Thanks go to the Blairgowrie ladies - Meriel Walker, Cassy Grant, Pauline Hill, Gill Tissell (team captain), Fiona Edwards and Carolyn Haddow.
Thanks to Gill for the match report and photograph.

THAT'S ALL FOLKS...........
I cannot believe that it is 12 months since I took on the role of Ladies Captain, the year has gone surprisingly fast!
I have thoroughly enjoyed being Ladies Captain and I am proud to have been Captain of such a wonderful Ladies Section. This is my final blog and I would like to thank all of you for your enthusiasm, kindness and support during my year.
It is now time for me to pass over to Elaine, our new Ladies Captain. I know that you will all give Elaine your full support and I wish Elaine and her new committee a very successful year.
For those of you that played in the Captain's Farewell Texas Scramble yesterday, I hope that you enjoyed your game. I was pleased that the weather stayed fair for my final competition as Captain. Well done to the winning team of Marion Brown, Carolyn Haddow, Mary Hope and Lorraine MacGregor with a score of 60 beating Maureen Brass, Hilary Inglis, Marion Kay and Gillian Wallace into second place with 62. Thanks also to my playing partners Fiona Edwards and Margaret Hunter, we had a fun afternoon and that's what golf is all about.
I would like to thank you for the beautiful flowers I received at last night's Ladies Annual Meeting.
I am looking forward to a more relaxing golf season next year, but just now I am delighted to have some more free time!
It just remains for me to wish Elaine, her Vice-Captain, Maggie, and Committee members Heather, Anne and Pauline all the very best for the 2023-24 season.
