The final friendly of the summer season saw 6 ladies travel to Panmure to participate with ladies from Panmure and Carnoustie. The tri-am teams were made up with a member from each club. The format was 2 best stableford scores on each hole except the par 3s where all 3 scores counted. The course, which was established in 1899, was well presented and the weather was super for golfing.
Some holes proved a wee bit of a challenge to those who had
not played there before. Straying off the tight fairways was met with quite
deep rough or wispy grass, heather, bunkers or water. There are a few holes
where the greens were blind, behind what felt like Munros, to those of us who
are vertically challenged. The undulating greens were running quite fast. Having
said that, it is a course we would welcome playing again. There were some very
good individual scores from Blairgowrie ladies with Maggie in the winning team.
The format was very sociable, a lovely way to end our season. In the clubhouse afterwards, we enjoyed our
meal which was followed with coffee/tea and a traybake.
Carnoustie Ladies Golf Club celebrated their 150th
anniversary this year. The match captains from Panmure and Blairgowrie were presented
with books to mark this occasion, a lovely gesture. The book is available for
all ladies to read in the ladies locker room.
My sincere thanks to Fiona Edwards, Mary Hope, Fiona Johnston, Maggie Marshall and Meriel Walker for representing the club.
Anne Farquharson, Match Captain
Many thanks to Anne Farquharson for the match report and photos.
