WINTER LEAGUE FRIENDLY MATCHES - 2025/26

A Winter League was established in 2021 with the aim of encouraging friendly competition between lady members of the participating clubs during the winter months.

In 2023, following two successful years, the founding member clubs of Anstruther, Blairgowrie, Crail, Ladybank and St Michaels agreed that this would become an annual competition with matches, 2 home and 2 away, taking place between 1st October and 31st March (no fixtures during December).

A salver is presented to the winning club at the Annual Meeting, which is held each August.

In 2024 Ladybank unfortunately withdrew from the league due to difficulties in being able to commit to fielding a full team.  They have been replaced by Earlsferry Thistle and Dunfermline have also joined the league.  We have 3 home matches and 2 away matches in 2025/26.

A sign-up sheet for the 2025-26 season will be placed on the noticeboard in the ladies’ locker room; the schedule is:

2025

5th October - Anstruther (AWAY)

26th October - St Michaels (Home)

9th November - Crail (Home)

2026

18th January - Earlsferry Thistle (AWAY)

1st February - Dunfermline (Home)

Teams of six will compete in a 4-ball better ball format. Soup and sandwiches will be served after the game, at a cost of £9.50.

Ladies of all abilities are encouraged to participate (a maximum course handicap of 36 will be applied). If you are interested in playing in the team please add your name to the sign-up sheet.

KYOCERA GOLF CLUB CLASSIC - ROUND 5 - Thursday, 28th August

Round 5 was drawn as an away match against Dundas Parks Ladies Golf Club.

On 28th  August, Heather Anderson (Team Captain), Liz Fertacz, Maggie Marshall, Anne Farquharson and Morna Bell set out on a windy and overcast afternoon in single match play format.

It became apparent to the players that local knowledge was key to positioning and putting on the greens and unfortunately a 5-0 defeat was the outcome.

Dundas Parks ladies provided soup and sandwiches afterwards and a friendly atmosphere was enjoyed.

We wish them the very best in the latter stages of the Kyocera Golf Club Classic.

HANDICAP LEAGUE MATCH v. PERTH LADIES (AWAY) - Monday, 25th August

At the beginning of August, Storm Floris caused a rescheduling of our ladies Handicap League match against Perth Ladies at North Inch. A new date was found which ended up being held on a glorious summer evening.

The views across the course were fantastic and a first visit for most of our team. However, due to the recent dry weather, conditions were testing and local knowledge of how to stay on the greens won over with the Blairgowrie ladies suffering a 5-0 defeat. All matches were tight though with one going to the last putt on the 18th. Afterwards we were fed homemade cakes and pots of tea at the bowling club before the trip home.

Thanks to Jo Menzies (Team Captain), Louise Luke, Lesley McPherson, Hannah Hislop and Angela Rooney for representing the club.

FRIENDLY TRI MATCH - BLAIRGOWRIE/CARNOUSTIE/PANMURE - Monday, 25th August

Eighteen ladies played in a mixed team of one lady from each of the clubs.  It was yet another beautiful day and we enjoyed the fun format of best 2 of 3 stableford scores.

Because the weather was so pleasant, we were able to enjoy a post match drink outside on the patio watching the various teams as they came in.

A delicious 2 course meal was enjoyed by all in the dining room before the results were announced.  The visiting teams were given a Blairgowrie Golf Club pouch which included a pitch mark repairer, pencil and ball marker to take away as a momento.

The scores were very close but the winners were Team 2 with 91 pts :  Anne Walker (Blairgowrie), Liz Husband (Carnoustie) and Dawn Hart (Panmure). The Ladies Captain presented each lady with a small gift.

Well done to the winning team and I hope everyone had a lovely time in the last of our friendly matches for 2025.

Thank you to the Blairgowrie ladies for giving up their time to represent the club:  Shirley Lewis, Anne Walker, Anne Farquharson, Maggie Marshall (Team Captain), Judith Carmichael and a special thanks to Linda Rice who stepped in at short notice.

LADIES PAST CAPTAINS DAY - Tuesday, 12th August

We had a fantastic turnout for the Ladies Past Captains Day.  Ladies were dressed in skorts or capri trousers, put on suntan lotion and some even put up umbrellas to shield themselves from the strong sunshine as the mini heatwave continues.

Eleven ladies played in the stableford competition  on Rosemount (including Noreen Fordyce who joined us having left earlier this year) with three ladies playing on the Wee Course.

Post golf, complimentary drinks were on offer where golfers met up with some more Past Ladies Captains who were joining us for lunch in the dining room.

A lovely 2 course meal was enjoyed and a small gift was given to all attendees from myself before announcing the results as follows:

Winner of the Muriel Rae Claret Jug -  Margaret Hunter (41 pts);  Runner-up - Mary Hope (38 pts)

Wee Course Winner - Jean Laburn with the runner-up Sheila Christie.

Both winners received a gift of a bottle of prosecco.

Well done to all winners and runners-up.

It was my pleasure to host all Ladies Past Captains.  I would also like to thank my Vice Captain, Heather Dawson for helping on the day and for the catering staff for looking after us.

Here are some photos from the day............

FRIENDLY AT HOME v. DOWNFIELD - Monday, 11th August

On Monday we welcomed the Downfield Ladies for our annual friendly match on Rosemount. The weather was extremely kind to us, with dry conditions, minimal wind and a pleasant temperature which set us up for an enjoyable competitive afternoon of golf.

For a number of the Downfield Ladies it was their first time playing Rosemount and all were complimentary of how the course was presented. The Green keepers continue to do an excellent job of presenting a pristine course, especially given the excessive windy conditions of last week which caused some disruption.

All matches were keenly contested with all 4 games playing out over the 17th and 18th greens. Unfortunately for the home team it was not our day with the visitors securing a well deserved win of 3/1.

After golf we enjoyed a delicious two course meal in the dining room. Thanks to the catering and bar staff for looking after us.

As always many thanks to Shirley Lewis, Marion Kay, Jo Menzies, Louise Luke, Sue Waddell (team captain), Lorraine MacGregor, Anne Farquharson and Linda Rice for giving up their time to represent the Club.

Before heading out players had a chance of winning a prize in the Ladies Captain's Tombola which raised over £600 in aid of Alzheimer Scotland.  Visitors commented on how much they enjoyed the fun tombola, how good the course looked and their overall experience on the day.

HANDICAP LEAGUE MATCH v. MUCKHART (HOME) - Sunday, 27th July

We welcomed the Muckhart team just as the morning drizzle was dissipating and we enjoyed clear skies for our round.  Some of the visiting team had not played at Blairgowrie before and they seemed to enjoy Rosemount which was in excellent condition.  Just after the last group arrived back at the clubhouse, there was a heavy rain shower, so we felt we had been very lucky.

The matches were all close but, despite our best efforts, the visitors prevailed with a 3-2 win.  Afterwards we had a friendly drink and chat.  Thanks to the Blairgowrie ladies - Kathleen Norris, Teresa Lynch, Louise Luke, Brenda Kerr and Gill Tissell (Team Captain).

KYOCERA/ANNODATA - ROUND 4 AT HOME V FORFAR - Saturday, 26th July

Heather Anderson (Team Captain), Gillian Wallace, Maggie Marshall, Anne Farquharson and Morna Bell set out on Rosemount in match play against a keen Forfar team.

Both teams were focused with games very competitively played and an exciting end ensued on the return to the clubhouse to learn of 3 game wins, sufficient to see the Blairgowrie team into the next round.

Forfar were gracious in defeat and truly wished us well in the next round.

Soup and sandwiches were enjoyed by all in a friendly ambience.

Well done ladies, a good win.

ALLISON TROPHY FINAL RESULTS - Friday, 25th July

The third and final round of the Allison Trophy was played yesterday on the Wee Course.

Congratulations to the winner, Morag Johnston, with a (best nett two out of three scores) result of 63 and runner-up Elizabeth Tosh with 66.

Well done ladies.

NORTH OF SCOTLAND COMPETITION - KATY ALEXANDER

Congratulations to Katy Alexander (a member of the P&K team and Blairgowrie) who is this year's North of Scotland Champion defeating Lily MacDonald (Aboyne) in a closely contested final 2&1 held on the Bruce course, Kinross Golf Club.

Well done Katy !!!

In 2026 the event will be hosted by Banchory Golf Club, Aberdeenshire from 27-29 July.

FRIENDLY MATCH v. ST RULE (HOME) - Monday, 21st July

After the torrential rain over the weekend we were delighted that Rosemount was open on Monday and that we were able to welcome the visiting ladies from St Rule.  Whilst it was very warm and muggy, fortunately the thunder stayed away, and we were able to complete our matches.

The course was in excellent condition – all credit and thanks to our greenkeepers for their hard work.  There was some excellent golf played by both teams, and the result was a very friendly 2/2 halved match.

Post play we enjoyed a delicious two course meal in the dining room where thanks were also extended to the catering and hospitality teams and of course to Anne Farquharson, Louise Luke, Carolyn Haddow, Elaine Robson (team captain), Linda Rice, Teresa Lynch, Maggie Marshall and Gill Tissell for giving up their time to represent the Club.

FRIENDLY MATCH v. CRIEFF (AWAY) - Thursday, 17th July

Six Blairgowrie ladies travelled to Crieff on Thursday, 17th July, playing in a Greensomes format. From the outset some ladies had the brollies up, not for the rain but to get some shade from the bright sun. By the time the match commenced it was quite clammy with little/no wind. It was almost a relief at times to see the ball run off the fairway into the trees to get some shelter!  The course was in good condition, thank you to the Greenkeeping team. The sloping fairways caught some golfers out and so too did the subtle slopes next to the holes on the greens.

Although the Blairgowrie team put up a brave challenge with 2 matches going to the 18th, it was not good enough to match the Crieff ladies who were victorious in 2 matches and shared one, making the overall result 21/2 to 1/2.  Congratulations to them.

As Crieff has a new policy of no catering after matches, we enjoyed a drink and a blether with our opponents in the clubhouse afterwards.  Sincere thanks to Anne Farquharson (Team Captain), Morna Bell, Teresa Lynch, Jo Menzies, Elaine Robson and Sue Waddell for giving up their time to represent the Club.

Thanks to Sue Waddell for the photo.

AWAY DAY TO MONIFIETH - Thursday, 10th July

Twenty Seven ladies got together to play on the Medal course at Monifieth in glorious sunny conditions.  Everyone met in the Grange and Broughty Golf Club for breakfast rolls before finding out the order of play and who were in their teams.  The fun format was individual stableford as well as a team stableford competition and there were also spot prizes up for grabs.

Conditions on the front 9 were very calm but most people struggled a little in more windy conditions on the back 9.  There were a few highlights with Shirley Lewis sinking her iron shot for a birdie on the 18th and I believe Aileen Hamilton even saw a black rabbit !

Post golf we all enjoyed hearty (huge portions!) of delicious food before the results were announced as follows:

Nearest the Pin 5th hole - Div 1 :  Anne Farquarson

Nearest the Pin 14th hole - Div 2 : Marion Kay

Longest Drive 17th hole - Div 1 : Carolyn Haddow

Longest Drive 10th hole - Div 2 : Cassy Grant

Best Stableford score and winner of the Plate - Div 1 :  Anne Farquharson (38 pts); Runner-up - Margaret Johnstone (32 pts on c/b)

Best Stableford score and winner of Gad Aboot Trophy - Div 2 :  Cassy Grant (37 pts); Runner-up -  Louise Luke (34 pts)

Stableford Team Winners :  Carolyn Haddow, Heather Dawson and Cassy Grant (100 pts); Runners-up - Maggie Marshall, Louise Luke and Shirley Lewis (96 pts).

Well done to all the winners and runners-up.  I hope you had a lovely day !!

I would like to thank the Ladies Committee for their help leading up to and during the away day.

TRI MATCH AT HOME WITH DUNBRACKEN & ST RULE - Monday, 7th July

The afternoon started off with beautiful, sunny conditions with ladies wearing skorts, making sure they had enough suntan lotion on ........ however, later on the skies darkened, thunder roared and then there was a bolt of lightening !  As a result, the games came to an abrupt halt when the klaxtons were sounded.  One group were about to chip onto the 18th green whereas the last group were making their way down the 14th (apparently Elaine Robson hit a blinder of a shot!).

The fun format for the match was stableford with teams of 3 with 2 scores to count, made up from a member of each of the clubs -  St Rule, Dunbracken and Blairgowrie.

Post golf the winners were announced:  Anne Wilson (St Rule), Susan Unwin (Dunbracken) and Denise Ginley (Blairgowrie) who all received a gift for their efforts.

As a momento, all visiting players received a gift to remember their day, which was most enjoyable.  Thank you to Anne Farquharson, Maggie Marshall (Team Captain), Louise Luke, Denise Ginley, Fiona Johnston and Elaine Robson for giving up their time to represent the Club.

Thank you also to catering for providing us with a lovely 2 course meal after golf.

Here are some photos from the day.

SUNDOWNER - Tuesday, 1st July

Afternoon tea was served from 2.30pm with mini strawberry tarts, scones with jam and freshly whipped cream (thank you Tina!) and a variety of sandwiches on offer.  All of this was washed down by a glass (or two) of prosecco for those who wanted to partake (or tea/coffee) before we headed out to play.

The weather got better and better as the ladies teed off on Rosemount for 12 holes with 7 teams of 2 or 3  (best 2 scores to count) with the sun coming out which was a bonus.   It really was a beautiful evening showing the course at its best!  Wildlife were also out in force with deer running across the fairways and hares, squirrels, oyster catchers and field mice being spotted!

Post golf we gathered in the clubhouse for drinks and indulged in more scones, strawberry tarts and tray bakes and discussed our rounds, with one team in particular finding the bunker on too many occasions - interestingly, it was the team who won !!

See results below: (holes 13-18 were recorded as nett pars)

1st - Teresa Lynch, Freda Erskine ad Shirley Lewis (143)

2nd - Louise Whitehead, Eileen Brown, Maggie Marshall (147)

Prizes were presented to winners and runners-up.  Congratulations !

Thank you for taking part in this fun event - I hope you enjoyed it.  Many thanks also to the catering team for such lovely treats and to Sean who I interrupted on several occasions to help with PSI issues.

Here are some photos from the day:
