WINTER SOCIALS 28/01/2019

The  Winter Socials Programme  attracted  38 ladies this morning to hear  Charles Dernie talk about some of the 2019 Changes to the Rules of Golf. Charles  concentrated on the 20 Rules most likely to affect club players, such as  changes to the rules on dropping the ball,  taking relief in bunkers, changes to the rules on the putting green, pace of play etc. Laminated notes which  you can put into your golf bag were handed out.  More  copies will be available at our Members' Evening in March, or you can get one on Friday at Winter league.

STRETCH THOSE MUSCLES

Nine ladies today had fun practising their breathing and stretching exercises,  guided carefully through the process by Mary Hope who had offered to provide an Introduction to Pilates. Mary also spoke about her own experiences and how this form of exercise can help with our golf in general.

A number of ladies had not tried Pilates before and expressed an interest into looking for such a class in the future. It certainly shows a taster can have a big impact.

As a thank you, Pauline presented Mary with a box of chocolates and after the session the group enjoyed coffee and a chat in the lounge.

Next week, Charles will be on hand to keep us in touch with the Rule changes, so don't miss out.

We had great fun  playing Indoor Bowls this morning. After a few practice sessions  some competitors  were playing like  seasoned old hands and there were mutterings some had played before - a claim hotly denied!

WINTER LEAGUE 11th & 6th JANUARY 2019

It was great golfing weather today which meant we were on full  greens on Lansdowne. Great scores, too....
Vice-Captain Margaret Kerr with Division 2 Winner Margaret Sturrock
Aggregate result of the Competition played on 06  & 11 January
Division 1
56 - 08 = 48  Bronwen Godley (last 9 holes)
61 - 13 = 48  Muriel McPherson

Division 2
66 - 17 = 49  Margaret Sturrock
66 - 15 = 51  Gill Tissell

P.S. A bit of nostalgia
Last week Sheila Bruce brought in a book, published in 1989, about the 100th Centenary  of The Blairgowrie Golf Club. We were amused to see that lady members in that time were described  under the names of their husbands, so, if your name  was Mary Smith, you were listed in the book as Mrs G.W. L. Smith.  You can guess what we all thought of that!

PUTTING WINTER SOCIAL

Today, 23 ladies enjoyed our 1st Winter Social event of 2019. Neil Cameron, Club Professional proved an excellent session on Putting, which included choosing the right putter for yourself, addressing the ball, understanding your own swing and ending the session with some practice in stroking the ball to a chosen target.

Following the coaching session, which lasted over an hour, some ladies chose to have a relaxing coffee and a chat, others had a light lunch, while 5 ladies selected to go out for a quick 9 holes.  I would like to thank Jo Stewart and Pauline Hill for organising the event and also Margaret Hunter for the photos.

Next week 14th January, Shirley Irvine will be hosting a session on Carpet Bowls which although good fun is also good practice for your putting stroke. Meet between 10.00 for 10.30 start, with coffee after.

Ladies are also invited to bring along their clubs, for if the weather is good, a number of ladies will go out for a few holes after the session. Come along and enjoy the company, or maybe learn a new skill with friends.
